think Hecky should concentrate on his own job , he's been exceptional over the last two seasons but if he becomes preoccupied with the players we haven't signed instead of the players we've got he'll get no where . Our players on Saturday should have wiped the floor with Rotherham, motivation and strategy is a coaches job not the CEO's
To be honest, imho Hecky has been led astray from above ever since last Autumn when he was told that he didn't need to sell anyone in January. I can't do anything but admire his commitment, professionalism and patience that it's taken until yesterday for him to deliver what, for me, was more akin to mild 'whistle-blowing' in the face of damaging ignorance and impending crisis, than anything else.
Not disputing that if the worst does come to the worst he could get another job. Not sure there are many vacancies in the EFL at this moment. Say he does have to /want to leave ( which I hope he doesn't by the way) he not only has himself to consider, he has a wife and kids. The latter can in some cases suffer from being uprooted as they are at a crucial stage of their education and development. At the moment they probably live in and around the community they've known from when they were little and have mates and the ability to see grandparents and members of the immediate family every week. That probably explains why after leaving Norwich in 2003 every Club Hecky has played for in the intervening seven year period re- Bradford, Wednesday, Barnsley, Mansfield, Gateshead and Harrogate Town have all been commutable on a daily basis. If his next job is coaching/ managing is say Plymouth Argyle he could well come to regret what he said after the friendly at Rotherham on Saturday if he has to live away Monday to Saturday or up sticks and disrupt his kids. Let's hope it can be put behind him and the Board let him get on with the job.
We all know where the future crisis is coming from and it's not from failing to sign players most of the fans have never heard of
That is all true but with the feelings of the vast majority of supporters I believe it is the board of directors who should be worried about the fallout not the manager. While officially they may have the power to fire him in reality THEY must know that the fans are far more likely to turn on them than they are on the guy who took us from bottom of league one to championship safety whilst lifting two trophies at Wembley.
I think untenable is strong. It's always a risky strategy to criticize those who employ you because one option open to them is to stop employing you. But none of us know how the powers that be will respond to the criticism. If I ran the club and I was subject to that criticism I'd look at two things: Is the manager doing a good job and is the criticism fair? I think the vast majority would agree that Hecky is doing a very good job. With that in mind, I'd want to keep him, even if the criticism stings. I don't know if the comments he made are fair or not. Undoubtedly, we need more players where options are limited, and we need a couple of better/more experienced players in key positions. If we're to take Hecky's comments at face value then there was an agreement in place to bring in a certain number of players and we haven't reached that target. But I don't know where the fault lies in that or if there is a fault on our side at all. Those behind the scenes may be working just as hard as Hecky to bring in players that have been identified, but the bottom line is you can't make clubs sell and you can't make players sign. If a club doesn't want to sell and/or a player doesn't want to sign, it doesn't matter how much time and effort our staff put in, that player isn't coming here. There may have been any number of targets where this has applied. Also, there may still be a number of deals that are taking longer than expected: the ground work has been done, the players are coming, but it's not quite yet signed, sealed and delivered. I don't know if this is the case, but if it is, I would imagine the least our manager can expect is a strong word about the reality of the situation, about keeping frustrations/thoughts/opinions/criticisms behind closed doors and a quiet reminder about who pays the wages. Alternatively, it may not be like that at all. Those Hecky was referring to may admit the criticism was fair, that he had a valid point. They may have thought we'd recruited well, that the original number of signings required was over estimated and that we could compete well with what we've got. As such, efforts put into further recruitment may have been relaxed. In such a situation, the result on Saturday and Hecky's comments could have come as a reality check for them and clear evidence that they hadn't done enough. I'm sure Hecky would still receive a quiet word about where and when such criticism is appropriate, but he might also receive a promise that further signings will be made. I don't know, none of us know exactly how the club will react, but while I don't think Hecky's comments are the best way of keeping on the right side of his employers, ensuring his continued employment and their support, I don't think he's made his position untenable. Those running the club may disagree...
About the most sensible thing on the BBS all weekend. Absolute garbage been spoken by some people who enjoy nothing more than imagining things that aren't there. Untenable my arse!!
So let me get this straight. The direct criticism of the board would have been shrugged off and there been no threads about it? Aye, ok. Some of us retain the capacity for independent thought. What you and JamDrop seem to advocate is staying silent on everything or just posting COME ON YOU REDS
Well, Ive just played Hecky's interview to my Hubby and asked for his unbiased opinion. He said that we are all over reacting. His first words were : "Whats wrong with that?" He thought Hecky was having a go at his players with a minimum attack on the Board. I thought Hecky was speaking like a fan when I first heard his interview, I've not changed my mnd either, listening to it again this morning. If there is any sense amongst the Board, they will realise this too. Anyone who has heard PC speak at the various venues will know how much of what he says is from the heart of a fan, just like the rest of us,but because he has to think of the Club as a business, he has admitted that sometimes he has allowed his heart to overrule his head with sometimes drastic consequences. Hecky is a massive Barnsley FC Fan, defeat at Rotherham will have hurt him deeply, not just because he's a fan but because hes our Manager. He has pride. He wants to win every game, he re-iterates this over and over and over throughout the season, "Do you know what I mean?" He knows it's not good enough. I've lost count of the number of times I've sat in the pub post match listening to comments about what the Board should be doing, this and that and it's all the Board's fault , I've emcountered it whilst walking my dog in the Park, when meeting a fellow fan whilst out and about and having a coffee, even when I've been camping!, it happens all the time. Our Board shoud have a thick skin by now, they get lambasted all the time. Hopefully, they will see it for what it is. A Manager who is a passionate fan, wanting the best for his club so they can compete with confidence and allowing his emotions to get the better of him when his pride is hurt . Get the recruitment done and give our excellent and passionate Manager the tools to do the job that we know he can do so well.
Are you sure played him the correct interview? I thought Hecky's comments were about as damning as it gets. We can listen to him or we can just pretend everything is Ok, offer a few pointless platitudes and blow smoke up the club's arse.
You don't think there was any ire directed at the board? I suppose the players were involved in the March/April agreements he refers to then?
