He's a top bloke. There's talk of Hecky walking away, but I reckon he couldn't do that to this club; he couldn't do that to his club. You put up with all of the **** for something you have unconditional love for. I stood in the rain at Altrincham, I reckon Hecky's probably got the same feeling now as I did that day; why do we bother. But I was there the weekend after, Hecky will be too. He's the sort of bloke you want in charge; straight talking, honest, hard working, loyal, a fan as well as the manager. And what is more, he's actually pretty good at this job too. He's not some Football Manager wannabe out of the club shop, who's played the video game and thinks he can do the real thing. The conditions he's worked under have proven that. I said a few years ago when Lee John's on left and Hecky took over, that we'd got to a point where the manager was as dispensable as some of the players. We'd built a model where one could leave and another could seamlessly transition into the role. I now realise that I was wrong; Hecky has become indispensable. No one person is bigger than this football club, but fvck me, Hecky comes close.
Brilliant what a bloke , this is what we are short of more Barnsley in Barnsley . We shouldn't just be used as a stopping off point .
I don't know if this will work from my tablet but I've tried to copy the text below. Hecky: "Everyone was writing us off last year and they're at it again. I understand it, but we know how to build a team here." Barnsley FC @bfc_official·10h Hecky: "Everyone at the Club is working hard, together. But we do have to get more bodies in. I want strength and competition all over." Barnsley FC @bfc_official·10h Hecky: "It's about getting the squad in place. Then taking bigger strides to put our future in our hands." Barnsley FC @bfc_official Hecky: "This isn't just a job for me. It's not about my career. This is my club, my team. I'm a Reds supporter. That's why I care."
I love Hecky, he is a dream for us. Barnsley through & through, but he has a life & a career & if the club don't support that I'd understand him moving on. I'm really sorry the future of the club has not been sorted. We'll keep losing talent until it isn't finalised. Will be behind the team 100 per cent, but worried we are going down this year. No goals & a weakened defence = relegation. We need 4 big signings.
He'll walk if he doesn't think he's getting backed though, I'd be very frustrated if I was developing players who were sold on for millions only for the spreadsheet to continue knocking out a list of National League players for 50 grand.
