Have to say a week or so ago I was worried... very worried! Due to lack of big name signings (to replace key players), poor results pre-season and start to campaign, and a reliance on youth, inexperience and potential. To have just 2x original players from the squad that won promotion just 12months ago is frightening (i.e. Hammill and Davies). But my outlook has changed. Its amazing what a win can do. 3 home games I have witnessed, we have competed, and I have seen a marked improvement game on game. In terms of the squad I feel it is shaping up nicely. New hero's its time to step up! Goalkeepers - Davies, Townsend, Fullbacks - Pearson, McCarthy, Fyers, Yiadom (and Cavare if rumours are true), Centre Backs - Lindsay, MacDonald, Jackson, Pinnock, Defensive Midfield - Joe Williams, D'Almeda, Attacking Midfield - Moncur, McGeehan, Mowatt, Mallan Wingers - Hammill, Hedges, Isgrove, Potts, Barnes Strikers - Bradshaw, Thiam, Ugbo, Payne Plus U23's: Jack Walton, Ben Williams, Louis Wardle, Josh Kay, Jared Bird, Jacob Brown etc. What do people think is this squad good enough and if not where do we need to strengthen? If anything I would still like to see an championship veteran come in. An influential player, who's been there done it. They could be Jason Scotland impact sub (as McGoldrick was for Ipswich at the weekend) or a McShane, Kevin Long or Matty James type on loan. To influence and take pressure off the younger lads.
I am pleased with the squad. I've seen some crap turn out for this club in the past decade, and I am confident the current lot don't have a Mellis, Dawson, Wiseman or Kennedy amongst them. They may not be world beaters straight away, but I think we have a great set of lads who will do the club proud.
As I've said before a relative of mine works at Leicester city they have told me. Barnes is a Steven Gerrard type player, not a winger.
I think we're still short of a quality striker . I would get shut of Yiadom , Sessi , Mowatt and Payne and invest in a striker , preferably a big mobile lad who knows where the net is . A win is a win but Tuesdays nights result papered over the cracks a little .It seems everyone is clamouring for experience but I think that might upset the dynamic of the group .
It's taking shape slowly , one or two more signings and one or two injured players back in squad and it looks good for future
Interesting that Matty James started for Leicester at Arsenal and also that the Foxes conceded the two late goals AFTER he had been subbed.
