I seem to remember admin had another go at it not so long ago, but it fell apart I guess. Isn't there an option to lock all threads but the match day one?
The reason other sites do it is because it works. Why do we need half a dozen announcements of the same event?
Why not. Because when you see 4 or 5 posts saying goal you know it is. Rather then one post trying to seek attention. Valid points raised in one humongous thread get lost. I'm not going to sit and argue the toss. This site never has had it. Never merged threads. It makes it unique. I would say if people don't like it go to a site that does it.
Or, as I've suggested before, why not have a sticky matchday thread for those who want one and let those of us who prefer the traditional free-for-all continue to post underneath in the time-honoured BBS lack of format.
We've done all this before but the main reasons for me: If there are more threads the board looks busier so people are more likely to stay around longer and contribute more. It's easier to talk about separate little bits of the match that you care about e.g. a thread about Potts, a thread about tannoys etc. It's easier to scroll past a thread title without clicking it if you are not interested than it is to scroll through 20 odd posts all in one thread. If two people decide to have their own little tangent in a matchday thread you have to read their whole boring chat about their night out or whatever to find the next football related post. People who are not at the match like to post their own thing as soon as they hear about the goal as their own little celebration to feel there and part of the action. It's pretty spontaneous because they are excited and want to share that excitement and good news with other people and so we end up with a few posted at the same time. It'd be rubbish if only one person was allowed to post and in one specific place. The same thing would happen in a matchday thread anyway and you'd have to scroll past them in there instead. As the goal posts don't typically get many replies they fall off the page pretty quickly anyway, in a matchday thread post everyone would have to scroll past them to read the next thing - this way they actually disappear much faster.
To many attention seekers on here want their own thread. How many we had about the takeover? Pathetic really and we have to put up with 10 threads all saying 1 0 etc. Yep, I think we already know. Kills this board
Threads on here are conversations. Several conversations about the same subject can take place in the world without the people being forced to meet together and partake in just one large conversation. You say it's killing the BBS yet it has existed like this for decades
Just had a look back. There were 2 threads saying 3-0, 1 thread announcing 2-0 and zero posts about us going 1-0 up. Yet in this thread we've had claims of 'a million threads', 'half a dozen announcements' and '10 threads all saying 1 0 etc.' In reality, there were 3 scoreline threads and 3 goals, hardly 'killing the board' or a reason to stop posting.
