If he wins the Vuelta (which he surely will) it will be an absolute travesty if he doesn't win SPOTY. What a superb athlete he is.
I don't think it's his chemist that should get the accolades, probably his 'mechanic' that deserves it. Won't be long til there's a massive 'motor doping' scandal coming rather than the old blood bags & EPO methods.
I think Mo Farah will get it, helped by the fact that he's now retired from track athletics and that his recent wins were in London. Froome's problem is that cycling is still not as mainstream as other sports and that his victories took place abroad. Compare it to tennis. If Andy Murray wins Wimbledon you can't escape it. If he wins the US Open it doesn't have the same effect on the public. Froome will suffer from this but moreso as there is no British cycling event to match the Vuelta or Tour.
Not so sure, Wiggins Cavendish and Hoy have all won it this century - though Olympic years helped Wiggins and Hoy I think he should get it but I think you are right it could be Mo, though Athletes havent done well recently neither He nor Jess Ennis have won it for example. In fact cyclists have won 3 times since Kelly Holmes was the last Athlete to win it.
You have a point there about the 3 cyclists. The Olympics though did have a massive influence and I think Froome lacks the personality of Hoy and Wiggins. I also think Farah will get a sympathy vote due to the fact that he's retiring from track events. Then again cycling has a massive amateur base despite not having a major professional event so that could carry Froome home. Personally I'd prefer Farah although I think cyclists tend to get unfairly tarred with the drugs-cheat brush just because there was a major problem in the past.
I'm convinced it's a fix when you get 2 Royals winning it for being in a team in a sport where you have to have a hoss that costs up to a million pounds, it makes you think. Froome should win it and Team Sky should win the team event.
I still think it's going off just not as ridiculous as it was a few years back. Froome on Ventoux in 2003 is one of the strangest performances I've ever seen
He should get a Knighthood too. As to the doping comments you will find that after the cyclists data was released the Spanish Judge ordered all the evidence of football doping held in the Madrid Lab ie Barcelona, Real Madrid, Juventus, and tennis players and athletes etc was destroyed. If you look at the current Sports banned list you will find the worst dopers are athletes and rugby players of both codes. To accuse Froome of doping shows a lack of understanding of his cycling history. In effect what you get with Chris Froome is a white Kenyan who lived at altitude and therefore has all the physical adaptions that high altitude gives you. To educate yourself the best book on doping to read is Tyler Hamiltons "The Secret Race". For Froome read the Climb.
