Doing a bit of walking in that area this week and cannot wait as the views and scenery look amazing.

Also doing a whiskey distillery tour on may way up. Be rude not to.

Our base is close to Eileen Donan castle near Dornie by Loch Long.

Don't know if it's the same , but every time I went up there which is around six times now,
around tea time, the midges came out. They were everywhere.
We were advised to take garlic tablets because they don't like the smell of garlic and wear a net over our heads.
Be interesting to know whether it is still a problem or whether they have been dealt with.

You can't go wrong on Skye, it's stunning!

Which distillery are you going to? I've been to Talisker. Quite a big operation, but the tour is quite interesting.

Anywhere further up north they're an issue. Ideally, visit in spring before they come out.

Beautiful spot. Quite remote but very scenic. On the road to Skye after we'd left Loch Ness, there is a Loch on your right
hand side of the road. We stopped and sat on some rocks and dangled our feet in the water. Just the sound of the birds singing and the water lapping on the shore, pure bliss.

Go to Flodigarry on the north eastern side, and look for the Quirang. If you go mountain walking, don't try to climb the Inaccessible Pinnacle. And bring back a couple of goalkeepers.

I've never had any problems with midges up there, never been bitten once. My flesh is probably too old, sour tasting and tough!:D

I've just come down from the Isle of Skye, I'm not very big and I'm awful shy, and the lassies shout when I go by, Badger, where's your troosers.

The owner of the lodge we stayed at on Skye was a midget. His underpants were drying on the line
in the backyard when we arrived and they had turn ups on them.

    It's absolutely beautiful.

I really want to open a savoury pastry shop up there. Unfortunately I haven't got the start-up cash so for now my plans are nothing more than pie in the Skye.

I am not going any further north though.

    The Skye's the limit.

Actually Jack you will not be able to visit any whiskey distilleries in Scotland. I think you'll find they are all in Ireland.
There are of course plenty of whisky distilleries here. Hope this helps mate.

Last time we were in Scotland, we went to Inveraray. The old Prison and Courthouse are well worth
a visit as is the Whisky distillery. We got a full tour culminating in access to the Duty room, where
they gave us a tot that they had decanted from the still. Wow it was strong. Never realised until then, that when it comes out
of the still, Whisky is colourless and picks its eventual hue up from the wooden barrels that it's stored in.
Really fascinating tour. Still had the odour from the mash in my nostrils up to a couple of hours later.

Forget to say that Skye was amazing.

When to Glengoyne distillery en route which was fantastic.

Visited Eileen Donan castle, the fairy pools and Portree and we also found our little piece of paradise in a small coastal village called Plockton and also did a seal spotting boat trip.
