The meeting passed with very little ‘new’ information Surely tomorrow Hecky won’t be able to evade the inevitable grilling from the couple o journo’s that will be there, perhaps more than usual? He has to answer inevitable questions doesn’t he.....??
No he doesnt have to answer them - he can either refuse to comment or say something like there has been no official approach and he wont discuss rumours every time there is a manager vacancy and he is fully focused on preparing the team for Saturday Of course he might even get Clapham to do the press confderence
"Im not aware of any approach" "My focus is the Norwich game and getting the players ready for that " Something along those lines at a guess
Article last night mentions the fans meeting. Claims McCoist is no longer in the running and Hecky has privately told friends a deal to install him as manager is nearly done. https://rokerreport.sbnation.com/20...s-dead-as-barnsley-chief-denies-hecky-contact
No contact - so have they tapped him up then? Managers like players? Most of them are tapped up, it saves face so they don't get turned down.
hmm, a report backed up with "there are claims doing the rounds" and "suggestions that he has" seems like pretty thin gruel to me. Not saying it won't happen but that's about as threadbare a piece as you could get. He's basically read the football gossip columns and rehashed them.
"No. I 'ant heard owt, you know whar I mean? We're just focused on Saturday. I 'ant heard owt but even if I 'ad I couldn't say owt, know whar I mean?"
Now I dont know about you but if I was in discussions about a new job there are very few friends I would say much to before a deal was actually done, and those I might discuss it with to get their thoughts most certainly wouldnt pass it on. And I dont work in a public position. Its hard to believe Hecky is the sort of guy to blab to the sort of mates that would pass on the story to anyone let alone the press. In any case what does almost done mean - that sounds a bit like almost pregnant. Not saying there isnt a discussion going on and he could well still go, but I dont think that tells us anything we dont already know - ie not much apart from he is someone Sunderland are considering.
PS If he does go he needs to make sure he is guaranteed a big payoff when he is sacked later this season. Maybe that's the almost done bit. Them - your trial period target is We must be 10 points clear of the 20th place by Easter or you will be let go for failing the trial ....
Without saying too much, as of the day before yesterday, I know for a fact that this was untrue. What is happening now may be different, but I doubt it.
