paul warne at RUFC says they put in a good offer for a permanent transfer RE Keiffer, but was rejected. Likely to be called back to Ipswich in Jan. Somebody suggested we have a look at him. Good shout, but might be difficult now
Last season I went along to watch Accrington v Yeovil as we had a free Saturday. Yeovil had a big lad up top who was a right handful, so I mentioned him to someone who I know is close to the club. I thought he was worth a look, but nothing came of it. I see he's now moved to league one and has started scoring more regularly, as well as no doubt knocking defenders about. Still only young too. Edit. Just found this clip on their forum Eaves was outstanding. Strong in the air and generally a man mountain, but he does have a good touch for a big man (to use the old cliché) - especially when balls are played directly to him with back to goal (whether to feet or head). His power and strength and decent touch caused their two CBs all sorts of problems. He must have bulldozed his way through about 3/4 times to get in good positions. And I agree that he was manhandled on numerous occasions without a foul being given. He is definitely a confidence player and a bit of an enigma though. For every couple of times, he pulls off a great touch or piece of skill, which surprises you for such a big man, he will (after starting to get confident that he's Matt LeTissier) do something that makes him look like the carthorse he looks like. That's not meant to be harsh, it's just the way I see it and why he is in League One. He is clearly hugely effective, has ability and, for me, is a key asset who will get better (and the big man we've been crying out for for years). the team's playing poor, the manager has too many players to work out his best team but clearly has his favourites who are first on the team sheet every week and who is ever so slightly starting to appear out of his depth in this league, so it could be difficult getting anybody in in January.
It makes you laugh how fickle some fans can be! 3 games ago & for the past 18 months he was working miracles & one of the best young managers in the game! Now he's out of his depth in just 3 games!
Yeah, like the look of the scouser Eaves and his impressive performances this season must also be seen in the context of having to play a number of games alongside (and excuse my bad language) Conor Wilkinson! Went to Doncaster v Rotherham recently in the international break and Moore wasn't great if I'm being honest, although he did score a late scrambled equaliser. The only two outbreaks of skill in the whole game came from Ryan Williams!
Eaves has scored 7 in 15 league games mate, and doubtless provided knock downs and held the ball up. Just the something different we've been missing this season.
I don't think Payne was up to Championship football but I think he'd have been more use to us than Ugbo.......that's for sure.
