why does it have to be 100%. I get the bit about getting in hungry young talent and bringing them on, but would it really hurt to get a couple of experienced older heads in to help out on the pitch? You would have to be careful who, to avoid ego's that could be disruptive but there are older players out there who still love the game and want to keep playing.
I agree. Matty James has been injured so if he's anywhere near fitness in January I'd be asking Leicester if we could have him back. We also need an experienced centre half but I'm sure Hecky would agree with us on these points.
What does that prove exactly? He only turned 25 in June. I also note this is not the first time you have criticised a white player.
If we don't strengthen central midfield in the window then I can see us going down. We have too little strength and experience in there. I'd be looking at getting two players in there as Moncur and Gardner are not up to it and McGeehan and Mallan are unproven. I'd imagine the potential buyers will have hinted that a relegation-threatened club is worth a lower price than a secure mid-table one.
I can't see us staying up whatever happens in January. The players we have aren't good enough for this division (at the moment anyway) and the last time we recruited experienced heads we went down with a whimper because none of them gave a toss. Don't know why that should change this time.
Much as I'd love to see Matty James back I think things have moved on from when he came last season. Leicester wanted him rehabilitated after his injury with a view to him pressing for a first team place. Would they want to do that, two seasons on the bounce? It's just as likely they'll want to offload him and with his wages he's likely to be out of our price bracket.
I agree mate, if you added a 'Scott Parker' type player to our midfield (someone of his experience/ability - I know he's retired by the way) it would make a hell of a difference
I think we will survive this season, understandable folk feeling defeatist after some dire performances, but there`s a lot of watter to go under bridge between nar and May. Keep the faith it`ll turn itsen rarnd.
That's the one thing I'm holding onto tbh, plenty of time for things to start to drop in our favour. Our style of play and on the whole lack of quality has worried me all season though, even when we were 1 defeat in 8 before our current bad run, and it's going to take a lot for that to change.
It’s a gamble signing any player irrespective of their age or prior experience. Take Gardner and Williams as prime examples. To my knowledge we’re Williams’ first taste of first team competitive football yet he’s by far and away our best player this season. I saw plenty of posts at the start of the season stating that he’s “powderpuff”, “soft” and that he can’t tackle or pass. Gardner on the other hand at 25 years old has bags of first team experience and left his last loan spell at Forest with rave reviews not too dissimilar to the spell that James had at Oakwell last season. We signed Frimpong who had played in the Premier League for Arsenal yet he was absolutely diabolical. When Birmingham signed Craig Gardner I thought he would be sensational at this level having watched him for years but he can’t get a kick despite Blues being in free fall. No signing is a sure thing and I’ll also add that we’ve had players before who’ve returned for subsequent loan spells and have looked absolutely horrid.
We need a player that is coming to the end of their career who wants to get into coaching. Someone from the prem who is willing to take a pay cut to get on the ladder doing their badges. Our academy should be enough to attract someone decent. Motivation wouldn't be a problem then either.
Reight nar it meks sense abart Gardner, av been thinking we hed the one that played fer Mackems, fecking eejut I am.
