Stewart Barrowclough, what a player, I love to watch him tormenting defenders and delivering such fantastic crosses. He was like a bullfighter, inviting the tackle then whipping the ball away with a body swerve, none of these silly multiple step-overs that they do today.
Aye he was good, but for me Derrick Parker. His hold up play was fantastic, most underrated player ever to pull on the shirt. Boy could we do with him now.
No argument from me, he was so skillful and his control was outstanding. He was my dad's favourite player in that team. Him and big Trev were a fantastic combination.
Thanks for that. Brought back some great memories. What a fantastic side. I worshipped Ian Evans, for my money the best center half in England at the time. Stones, Hanson both clones of Evans' style.
Brilliant stuff, thanks for posting. Love the bit at the end where the commentator says listen to the Barnsley fans singing and it's "Ronnie Moore, what a wnaker, what a wnaker"!
Brilliant watching that. One of many great away days that I missed over the years because I was in the wrong part of the country. I was living near Salisbury at the time, stationed at RAF Upavon. I couldn't even watch "The Big Match" in Wiltshire - well, maybe I could but they wouldn't have been featuring a Barnsley match would they? Watching that you realise how different things are now. Not a sign of sponsorship on the kit, all looking really smart and ALL wearing black boots, not these ludicrous lime green or orange ones that they do now. Nice hair cuts and not a tattoo to be seen. Oh and......what a team we had! From number one to number eleven every player was at the top of his game. What a shame they couldn't make that step up to the First Division. We could have had a very different last thirty years if they had managed it. So close but it wasn't to be
