Imo we need a replacement for Williams, fryers isn't upto it at championship level and obviously another striker especially if we are going to hoof balls upto him from defence.
I thought Hecky sounded downbeat and frustrated, in marked contrast to his optimism following the takeover. It is clear he has had very little say about signings (ref: the signing of too many similar midfielders). The feeling I was left with was that he had no idea who would be recruited to fill the the positions he had identified and he was simply sat waiting for them to arrive. I understand the role of Head Coach if different to Manager but he is one who understands what is required on the pitch to secure safety over the next 4 months. Maybe he was deliberately playing everything down but it sounded like there is still a big disconnect within the club of player recruitment.
Again though, this doesn't mean we're going to be spending £5million on a 30 year old striker and paying £25k a week in wages like some would like.
Williams is OK, we just need an older head with him. We do need to ship out a couple of midfielders though I reckon & try & work out who are the best of what we signed in the summer. Not sure we need both Mallan & Moncur for a start, very similar players. I see Mowatt has only played 3 games for Oxford, is he injured?
I’m almost certain that in an earlier pre-takeover interview with Radio Sheffield that PH said that money was available in January regardless. Nothing new here, imho.
Yep I have had this feeling since the summer that he was not happy with recruitment. I think it's very clear he has very little say in who we bring in. Maybe he has the power to veto signings but not to go "off list" time will tell.
Williams is the most important player in our team, there’s know way we can replace him people where on his back Saturday when I thought he played quite well I think he is a real unsung hero I also seen these stats which I think are quite brilliant considering it’s the lads first professional season
I think this is something that "the plan" has overlooked. Who are the players learning off whilst on the field of play? Answer is no one. Our most senior player, Adam Hamill isn't even a regular starter. I know they're all professional footballers, but very young and still learning, but it's at the cost of points and possibly our championship status. Need some leaders and finished products added to the mix and some of these young lads should benefit from it.
I don't think Williams needs replacing but he does need some help and we need to have an alternative option to him. He is a youngster playing his first full season of men's football in one of the toughest leagues around. He started well, to the extent that it almost became a case of how Williams goes, so the midfield goes. However, I think I'm right in saying that he's played every minute of every league game, bar the one he was suspended for and the last minute at Bolton. Without anyone to rotate him for periodically I think its been inevitable that he's had a bit of a drop off from those earlier performances. As with Barnes, I don't think Hecky envisaged having to flog him to death but unlike Barnes, in his position there isn't really much of an alternative (yet!)
Reading between the lines of that interview I think WE HAVE A PROBLEM And that problem is Ganaye. Surely it is the Chief Executives job to coordinate signings - between the owners - recruitment team - manager. I hope I'm wrong. But if you remember - Hecky in interviews during the last summer window didn't sound happy with the service he was getting from Ganaye.
Yes I agree with that, but as far as business goes he would be my first signing and build a team around him I think he could be even better with a few more better players around him in the side, I think we need a big striker aswell the forwards we have now are all to similar in my opinion
Do you have a dartboard with BFC related things on that you throw at and see what it comes up with? I think Hecky is probably just trying to downplay the transfer window a bit as some people seem to be getting a bit carried away with it.
I thought hecky spoke a bit out of line again today, he said that he didn't know how much he had to spend or what players we were going for and that needed to change so he could plan for going forward. All this shows to me is that there isn't a team approach behind the scenes yet which is a worry especially when hecky is talking about it to the press.
