There’s some snowflakes on here doubtless. Very sensitive, perhaps overly.

But sorry fella, racist and homophobic stuff isn’t right, should be highlighted and removed, the perpetrator warned and/or banned.

Banter is one thing but some of that drivel is rightly being removed from society. Micky Flanagan has no racist or homophobic content in his show, billy Connolly is sadly no longer well enough to tour. I’m not sure using Roy Chubby Brown as a yardstick is that sensible, but I have watched one of his more recent shows online, his content is still controversial but markedly altered. He has moved with times somewhat.

Bernard manning - or anyone else of the 60s/70s vintage you mention, very funny. Makes me laugh watching it back. I certainly don’t shrivel in horror, I do recognise it is of its time and very entertaining. But it was a different world back then; such language was a norm, accepted if you will. Not rightly, but it was.

Only Fools and Horses has a racist gag in one of the episodes which is cut out on repeat showings, Porridge too. It probably wasn’t right back then - but it was accepted. It isnt now. It wasn’t particularly highlighted as an issue when John Barnes had bananas thrown at him. Would you agree with that now?

The same goes for sexist/misogynistic stuff too.

It is wholly wrong of you to call out people who highlight these things, as allowing such language on a public forum is a criminal offence - as much as it is for whoever wrote it too.

Do you not remember the forum on the official website being taken down over the horrendous stuff said about Uriah Rennie? I wouldn’t mind but he gave enough material for us to complain and moan about without bringing race into it.

I don’t agree about the ‘totally vanilla’ - but I see what you’re getting at. You can’t say what maybe you used to be able to, on here or anywhere.

The issue isn’t this forum or the people you mention though, it’s the fact that society and the world has moved on from such things, it is not morally or socially acceptable - nor legal - to say prejudicial things regarding colour, creed, sexual preference etc. If you have an issue with that, take it up with the world.

It used to be quite acceptable to beat your wife up; there also wasnt such a thing as rape against your wife at one point. Public view - and in turn the law - changed on this. I could go on - but quoting things that happened forty or fifty years ago is irrelevant. Even twenty years ago during the bbs infancy, casual sexism and racism was less castigated than it is now. The local corner shop near me was referred to in reference to the race of the proprietors by my parents and grandparents at that point - they altered this when learning of its inappropriateness.

If you want to live in the past or a time warp good luck to you. You’ll have friends in the EDL or whatever. But this is a public forum for fans of our football club, some of which no doubt are lgbt, Black, Asian, mixed race. Or women. Not wishing to cause offence, and even not actually causing anyone any offence, isn’t an excuse to use such language.

No idea why we can’t post on politics though. Thatcher was a pure lovely person, and whatever colour, race, sexual preference, gender or whatever she had been, she’d still have been a lovely person. Theresa May is trying hard to be just as much one.

That would be me :) Hello and welcome! Not sure if we ever met but I used to post as City Tyke on the incarnation before this. I set this one up in 2005. I still see Yorkie from time to time and some of the other London Tykes but moved back up north about 10 years ago.

I’ve been on the board since the late 90s but read more than post. I remember you all and others including E I Addio, The Full Ponty and even Roundsman (the old board’s version of Hemsworth Tyke). Used to live in Texas and the board was a priceless lifeline to the club and the humour if it’s supporters). Hope all is well with you and thank you for starting and running the board all those years ago.

Excellent! Great to hear from you all and to those that are disguising their true-self (aka Oakwellian - Rich A maybe?) had better reveal it now :-D or I'll send Westie round to bum yer.

On another note, the old BBS was only ever run for the fans... by the fans... & a means to contact fellow reds around the world to share information and have a crack.

It wasn't too PC but it did indeed have: swear filters, rules and yes, the dross and downright offensive repeat offenders were simply removed. It was the early and dare I say exciting days of the WWW so was all new to us. The fact the super reds charged up the league to the Premier actually brought us all together which was no bad thing at all. I recall a lot of you now and they were magic times 'virtually' or if we managed a pint together. I've got some photos somewhere!

Some of the posts were things of absolute 100% comedy gold and not at all offensive. Innuendo, taking the p%%% and being totally sarcastic was all part of the fun!

Keep saying hello, nice hearing from you all.

Tattershall Tyke stopped posting but I think he has a sneeky peek from round some corner or another every now and again. I still think sometimes the lunatics have taken over the asylum where on the old board the lunatics ran it from the start.
