True but I didn't think boagle was good value at 1million and boagle had quite a few starts for Wigan in this league.
P.s As for belittling our club. I strongly object to that. I've supported them for 50 plus years, followed them all over the country and am always proud to tell anyone who I support. I simply choose to keep reality attached to my ambitions.
I didn’t get a season ticket because we have no ambition either on the pitch or off it . I have enjoyed going to see teams that do. Pay me a couple of grand a week I will do some scouting then give me access to the cyber metric system and get back to you. Then pay me some more and in my further role as CE I will negotiate wages and transfer fee and get back to you. It’s almost as if we should be paying professional people with experience in the field the money to do that sort of job rather than asking some bloke off the internet. Given that other teams manage to do so it’s clearly not impossible. As for expecting lower league players to step straight in and make an impact as our latest recruitment taught you nothing? Even in the league below it took Hourihane, Winnall etc 18 months to get up to speed. Of the players we signed in the summer so far for various reasons only Lindsay can be seen as an immediate success.
£750k. Not doing too bad when he starts in a decent side, instead we spent £1 million on a league 2 midfielder with a broken leg.
Hooper? We sign Thiam for a million quid and pay him 2 million quid wages over his contract. We then sign Moore for a similar outlay. We have now spent 6 million quid on unproven talent. We may now need to buy more forwards if our gambles don’t work. So we may spend more over the same period.
Again, referencing the era before the current owners. Do you think we should be immune from relegation from the championship? What part of our 130 year history gives you that impression? Have a look at our average position in the championship over the years and tell me we are too good to get relegated. True support is accepting that and still following them anyway.
I never heard when Hunter or Collins or Clarke or Machin, or Anderson or Wilson or Hendrie or Bassett or even under Spackman or Parkin or Davey all this defeatist we cant compete bedwetting talk. It started with Robins and then Hill infected the fan base with it. For clarity in view success in our terms as comfortable mid table in the Championship a solid home record and we should be more than capable of achieving that.
I doubt thiam is on 12k a week as you have just said. Or we sign Hooper for a total outlay of over 7million on one player he gets injured or has a goal drought we are relegated but still have to pay 22k a week in wages. Sounds like a great plan.
Best not to sign any players then in case they don't work out. Don't want to waste any valuable pennies do we.
So we should basically never sign anyone because they might get injured? Thiam gets injured, Moore gets injured? Our third try fails. You can get goalscorers at this level without paying daft money. O’Grady cost what 250k. Jason Scotland was free and did a job for a bit. We could do with him now or someone like him. Smashing plan. Incidentally I am not proposing we spend 20 grand on Hooper or spending daft money on anyone just pointing out that we may not be making the best decisions financially by shopping at Pats Pants on the market for players every single time.
This dismantling of the squad is an utter myth. Players have the right to seek moves elsewhere and try and maximise the money they can earn in a ten year or so career. It's **** but it's the truth. If we'd have offered daft contracts out then we would have been financially sunk - pre takeover obviously. Hourihane - 3 year deal at 25k a week. Winnall - 3 year deal at 20k a week. Watkins - 3 year deal at 15k a week. Scowen - 3 year deal at 15k a week. Roberts - 3 year deal at 15k a week. Bree - 3 year deal at 15k a week. The above totals in excessive of 18 million pounds over 3 years.
I think what's coming out of these arguments is that 'the system' is an experiment and any similarity to baseball is entirely coincidental. As an experiment it still has to be proven. The assumption being that there is loads of talent out there and that it can be mathematically measured. Some very rich backers have signed up to it and we will have to wait and see. This season doesn't matter to them, the head coach is just another piece in the jigsaw and losing away in the first round of the cup matters even less.
No your right let's go sign Dwight Gayle 15 milion should do it come be best 12 months of our 130 year existence and the last...
How much did Jason Scotland and O’Grady cost us when they saved us from relegation. Was that 15 million quid?
I didn't say that but it was just a example. You named 3 strikers who you said were reasonable all 3 are out of our price range with wages taken into account. So we have no option to give players a chace to prove their self at this level hecky has said that on numerous occasions.
I didn’t say they were reasonable I said they had moved without massive transfer fees. That’s different. We could attract players like O’Grady and Scotland we choose not to because of the plan. That’s different. In general I like the plan. There are occasions when you need to deviate from it. Of the gambles we signed in the summer. How many were able to come into the team immediately and make the grade? Lindsay.
I’m sorry but can you not see that there is very little sense in what you’re saying. Look at Birmingham, Sunderland, Hull and Bolton they are absolutely full of footballers who people on here would probably say would make an immediate impact. Yet we are above them all in the league. James Vaughan, Adam Le Fondre, Aidan Mcgeady, Marc Roberts, Aaron Wilbraham, Karl Henry, Darren Pratley, Sebastian Larsson, Frazier Campbell, Michael Dawson, John O’Shea. These players are on massive amounts of money and our lads are out performing them. We’ve been there and done it with these types and on the whole they let us down. You can’t even name a striker we should sign as an alternative to Moore and then reference not having the resources to make calls like that. Why not trust the people who do have the resources then rather than keep harping on about Moore being unable to step up instantly then admit yourself you don’t have a clue who could.
