Always remember him fondly from watching match of the day in the 80s and from mi panini sticker books back in the day. Top top player.
35 years ago I toddled down to Upton Park to see that West Brom team win 1-0. Two weeks ago a mate had a spare ticket for the same fixture at the London Stadium. Andy Carroll this time. I read Cyrille's autobiography a couple of years ago. He always considered himself a Baggie more than anything else. His brother Dave scored just the once for us - against West Brom.
When I visited my Sister and her husband in the Midlands we used to take the odd Albion game in. Johnny Giles was the Manager and he was succeeded by Albion legend Ronnie Allen. It was him that brought Cyrille to the Club and he was so sure he'd make it, in the face of criticism from the board he offered to pay the transfer fee out of his own pocket. Ron Atkinson gave Laurie Cunningham, Brendan Batson and Cyrille the nickname " The Three Degrees" after the all girl US group of the same name. There's a statue of the three players outside the Hawthorns. Apparently he's suffered a sudden heart attack and died. He will be greatly missed. RIP Cyrille.
