I'm not offended, and sadly if I were, I'm not paid for it either. I just call it having decency. Sad its something that many feel the need to try and bully decency away and suppress scrutiny of questionable behaviour. Fine to question corruption, other countries, but woe betide we should look at the casual racism, sexism and homophobia that seeps through large swathes of this country.

Everyone has the right to free speech, and as such, they also allow themselves to be judged and called to account on what they say.

How many people are actually genuinely offended by Tweets made by him 6 years ago. In fact if it hadnt been for journalists trawling for dirt no one would ever have even known about them.
There is a genuine story in how he got the job because I cant believe he was the best candidate, but a couple of tongue in cheek comments 6 years ago poking fun at gender stereotypes is just not relevant to the discussion.

    Saying

The sad thing is there is now an industry within our vaunted "investigative" free press trawling through history of every famous person harvesting anything that can be misconstrued or contextually warped to provide embarrassment and ridicule to anyone who finds themselves in the limelight - to make their moment of glory as uncomfortable as possible.

In all aspects of society there's a race on between celebrities, politicians, sportsmen, business men and their PR companies and journalists to trawl through years of social media before it's deleted.

What a horrible lot our press have become. Even the Financial Times - the last truly reputable paper out there is showing signs of sensationalism.

I see far more people incessantly offended and whinging about some mythical body of 'professionally offended' people I suspect they've never met or spoken to (or even exist) based on sensationalist articles.

Most of the people I know are who you would refer to as this, but on issues like this in reality its almost always more of a bored "do people really still think a single-layered beat your wife 'joke' is interesting or funny" than offence. I suspect its a coping mechanism as these people find their sense of 'humour' and personality further and further marginalised. "Well they're all offended because IM SO CLOSE TO THE BONE" is much easier to swallow than "I'm unoriginal, dated and tedious".

Fair few in this thread and a lonely expat probably proofreading his 5000 word essay about it as we speak.

I just don't understand anyone who responds to something trival and disconnected from them offensive. What does it mean when someone says I find that offensive?
It has no meaning to me it's just a whine.

Again, though, do you see and speak to these people that find it offensive or do you read cherry picked second hand accounts in the media?
Getting round to that time of year when the actual professionally offended throw around nonsense about Easter Eggs being offensive to someone or other despite the fact I've never met or seen a credible account of this anywhere, for example.

Apparently, he didn't even apply for the job. All they wanted was a well-known name I guess. There's no way someone so inexperienced in management should suddenly be head coach of a national team though.

I hope you are not referring to the story researched by their journalist Madison Marriage on the Presidents club which was acting like a relic of the '70's as if thats sensationalism I'm all for it.

I've been on the other side of that and had a few people tell me my views on Religion are offensive.

IMO the standard of Womens football at International level has improved quite a bit over the last decade. Whilst there are some poor games quality wise, Ar own teeam has shown me some reight ***** at times this season.

These ‘views’ clearly weren’t his serious views though. He was clearly joking. Regularly used to joke with his Mrs & sister on there years ago. All about context.

No idea what Man United’s got to do with a few daft tweets from 6 years ago
