Just read on twitter that Oxford are trying to sign Newcastle’s keeper Freddie Woodman on loan. He won’t be going there to warm the bench as he’s a big talent & won the under 20’s World Cup in the summer. This says to me that they’re expecting Eastwood to leave
They've been linked with him for a couple of weeks, around the same time we were linked with Eastwood. A deal for Eastwood would definitely look a lot more likely if they do sign Woodman.
sure i read he was joining Aberdeen if Newcastle signed another keeper today....so i reckon this one will go down to the wire with Eastwood
I’d rather us sign Woodman. Great move for Oxford. Not to disparage Eastwood I’m sure he’s fine but Woodman is a real talent imo.
I'm confident on this one. Hearing good things at the moment. The club made another offer, I'm not sure if it's been accepted but with them moving for another keeper I'd imagine it has. I'll make a few calls and see what's what on this.
Agree with that. Seems odd we’re putting all our eggs in a basket for a player who seems to have all the same strengths and weaknesses as our current goalkeeper, just without the championship games having only played in a handful. He’s also never gone for a fee and they want us to pay £1m. fans of Bradford and Portsmouth seem to think he was hopeless for them and was a “flapper”. It’s only Oxford he seems to have shown any kind of form. If we sign the bloke hope he can step up and perform. But doesn’t seem a clear improvement on Davies on paper or from highlights at lower level.
Aye I’ve been mates with some Oxford fans since 97 and they are surprised at the move. A good shot stopper better at moving the ball out of defence but not good at coming for crosses or commanding his area.
It seems an odd one. Assume it’s more a better number 2 than straight into the side. Might push Davies on a bit. Always good to improve the squad though.
I know Davies has struggled of late for form but I have always stuck up for him & I maintain that any goalkeeper that can do all the the things you mention to a high standard will not be in the Championship , they would be in the Premier league & even some of those playing at that level are prone to mistakes
A goalkeeper costing points with mistakes sticks out far more than a striker missing chances. Davies cost at least fifteen points last season hes been one big blunder since his debut friendly bollock three years sin. Yea he's capable of some stunning stops but simply not good enough all round performer.
