According to laddo on the twitters. Tbh i'm surprised it's had this much gravity. Nowhere near his salary and Pulis has said he's not interested in loans - so I can't imagine for a second he'll be interested in a loan which they then have to largely subsidise. Wonder who the Hull striker swap deal is? Assuming it's not a primary target..
Diomande Strange one with Fletch and the Pullis dilemma. He either pays him thousands a week to sit on his bench, or pays him thousands a week (less our contribution) to get regular game time in a Big Misters league with us. I know which I'd do ........ win/win.
They just want someone to pick up his wages which we can’t. We need to move on rather than waste time waiting. Of course I then fully expect us to then sign him to make me look daft.
He's probably assuming someone will come in on a a permanent who can offer summat closer to his salary. Can't see em getting any more than 1-2m for him though. Feel for the lad in a way.
Was on about it to a mate last night, not his fault they decided to fork 7m out for someone with very little experience apart from league one. Between West Ham and Boro they could be ruining a young lads career unless they are willing to take a massive hit on what they paid for him
If we do sign him it will be late, when it becomes 100% clear that there isn't a better offer available.
Aye. I know plenty will say 'heart bleeds', but as you say he backed himself in the PL. Who wouldn't? Boro then paid a stupid amount for him, which made it very easy for West Ham to just offload him. Now they don't fancy him either, but they will want to get some of their coin back and in the meantime, you can't blame a lad for not wanting to take a massive paycut. Pretty much 2 years of his prime development gone, due to football clubs having way too much money. I genuinely think there's a top striker in there, and I think Hecky could make him into that. But there's just no way we can do those types of wages.
No but from what I can gather he's willing to drop to play regular football just the fee that would be the stumbling block
The thing is, we have no idea what wages the new regime are able and willing to pay, so its daft to dismiss it
While I agree about West Ham and Boro impairing his career and much as I like Ashley as a player (during his time with us at least), you have to lay some blame at his door. Was he ever likely to be shown patience at West Ham? No. Three or four games and he'd be replaced with some guy from the continent. Not much different at Boro really. He could have chosen to go to a club where he was confident he'd get game time and encouragement. Instead he gambled and went for the big bucks. I don't blame him. I'd almost certainly have done the same. The gamble having failed though he can't expect someone to continue paying him big money until he demonstrates he's worth it.
He's a sound lad and by all accounts has took advice from Hecky on a few occasions. I can't imagine for one second he'll be refusing to budge on wages. But the gap is huge. £20k feels about right and anything round the £10k mark would probably make him our highest earner...so even at our limit, we're asking him to take a 500k/yr hit. That's a lot to ask.
