Think we have spent around 73 seasons in the english 2nd division and the championship as it's now known.

2nd tier has not always been our level and we've not always been too good for the 3rd tier.

Or even the 4th - as I can testify to.

This crop of players simply aren't good enough. I hope we stay up this season but I really cannot see it happening. Perhaps relegation, then a full season in L1 with a squad that can learn in relative ease against easier competition can then have the time to gel and become a real strong unit for the subsequent championship campaign the season after, safe in the knowledge that a repeat of the Hourihane, Scowen, Bree, Roberts, Watkins and Winnall fiascos could be avoided that time around due to our perceived ability to hold onto our better players. In my opinion, our promotion came a season too early and the takeover, a season too late. Shame.

I will look forward to playing - insert name- on a Tuesday night with their 148 supporters.

Go to the Burton game on Feb 20th. That's what next season could be like.

No I'm all for battling to stay in this league, the owners said "they aren't going to do anything crazy" but I'm sure they are well aware of the financial input required to be competitive in the Championship so I'm sure we'll see an overhaul of the squad. Whether buying from different markets will work who knows but we've exhausted the plan of buying young lower league players because clearly, at the minute, we have too many who will eventually settle into being decent league one/two players for the rest of their careers.
