18 or 19 points should see us safe. Six wins or five wins and a few draws. Problem is I can't see where five wins will come from. Burton and Bolton at home but beyond that? Problem is, apart from being goal shy, we don't seem to be able to pox a win. I remember in Simon Davey's first season we got hammered by Ipswich on Good Friday then played Birmingham at home on Easter Monday. They hammered us but we somehow managed to win 1-0. I don't see this team doing that. Where are the wins coming from??
I'd love to say Saturday but I'm pissing in the wind with that. Them lot will beat us comfortably I fear.
I think you're right. 50 points won't be needed this year - probably mid 40s because there are 5 or 6 teams in the division who are poor. Hopefully we can slime a few wins on the run in too, if we end up playing mid table sides with nowt to play for.
Hopefully: Wednesday 1pt Burton 3pts Birmingham 0pts Norwich 3pts Cardiff 0pts Middlesbrough 0pts Millwall 3pts Bristol City 1pt Forest 1pt Sheff U 1pt Ipswich 0pts Bolton 3pts Leeds 0pts Brentford 3pts Derby 0pts 19pts. Optimistic in spots (Brentford/Norwich), Negative in others (Wednesday/Birmingham) Tough ask, but not impossible or completely out of the realms of possibility.
I agree with you on Forest or Ipswich but I would like to think as well the original two you mentioned , I always fancy us to beat Millwall ( except in FA Cup , lol ) & I would not rule us out at Birmingham , its usually a happy hunting ground but our current form suggests that getting five or six wins is a tall order but we live in hope
We desperately need a spark to build confidence and get some sort of run together. We've got a few new players in and I think we need that fresh impetus that new players bring. I think Saturday is huge, because win that and we've a little run of games that with confidence in us could produce a decent return of points. Win 2 or 3 pretty close together and I think we could open up a gap quite quickly seeing how poor so many of the teams are down there. fail to win Saturday and I could really see heads drop.
It's all about confidence, OK with perhaps a bit of luck to kick it off! But if/once Hecky raises the confidence levels again I think we'll be able to turn out a decent set of results with this squad.
I hate to say it and never thought I would but I'm torn between wanting us to win the owls and loosing to hope that hecky goes because if we loose again and we don't put over a performance then surely this has gone on long enough
