It something that will or should happen though given his influence not just in signing but also playing Bree and Holgate an advisory role would be an interesting thought.
I don’t want Danny back but some of the recollections of his second spell aren’t what I saw. I saw him hand 14 players their professional debuts, deal with long term injuries to Winnall, Williams, Bree, Ramage, Cranie & Turnbull all from his first team after starting pre-season with just M’Voto, Nyatanga & Jennings as senior pro’s from the season before. It was a hard, hard job that season & was always going to be a struggle whoever was in charge
You forgot barnsley 2 port vale 3 Walsall 3 barnsley 0 and going to Donny for a draw having 1 shot on target in 90 mins and losing one nil. When he left in Feb we hadn't won away since bramhll lane in early November. Maybee they is some role for him at oakwell but not manager.
Wilson didn’t identify or sign Winnall, James Cryne did. Lets not give Wilson credit for someone else’s genius call.
i don't think there was any genius signing a striker who'd been plundering goals for fun at Scunthorpe. Now if Kane Hemmings had worked out ....
Kane Hemmings also plundered goals for fun, I don’t see your point. I’ve seen a lot mentioned about the acquisitions made during DW’s tenure but in all honesty I think that people are basing that on the player’s individual ability at the point in time that said player left the club. Hourihane - Excellent servant and a tremendous player but couldn’t compete as part of a midfield two for a significant time until midway through Johnson’s tenure. Winnall - He wasn’t DW’s signing. Scowen - Came with a good reputation following his exploits at Wycombe but found himself very much being used as a utility/squad player during the promotion campaign and the August-January stage of the Championship season. Scowen only nailed down a central midfield position once we lost both SM and CH in January.
Funny thing, perceptions. Hecky has just left, in February, and we have won once (home or away) since November. Startling parallels. And yet 2 weeks ago, a poll on here had us at 95% wanting Hecky to stay.
Hemmings plundered 18 goals one season... for cowdenbeath. Winnall 23 for Scunthorpe in a much more competitive league. We have different recollections and expectations of that time. As i recall (not 100% sure), Danny never got to pick Josh as he was dismissed just after signing him. And yes, Hourihane, like all the others benefitted from coaching and development and playing games and all that started under Danny.
No, what that poll showed was that we were far more disposed to having patience with Hecky even though in practise Wilson had many of the same difficulties to face, and it was basically because he is from tarn.
In 1997. Last millennium. All I remember of the second spell is aimlessly bashing the ball at Chris O'Grady's head, and it coming back to us.
The bit about Winnall isn’t true. Wilson was scouting him when he was at Utd. I know my mate did the scouting for him!
Your moniker suggests that I should pick my debates with you wisely and that this isn’t one such debate. If you think that Wilson is the man for the job then that’s absolutely fine, everyone’s opinion is as valid as the next.
