Yeah seems like it could be a 4-4-2 for Burton listening to his comments. I was slightly surprised by this, but suppose it could be suggested that switching to a untried formation after 2-3 training sessions could lead to more confusion and uncertainty for the players. I think the key thing is we see us playing with less caution and more belief than we have done the majority of the season, regardless of the formation.
Yeah I assumed that’s what you meant but I can’t see that happening in reality. When we played Aston Villa away we set up in a 3-5-2/5-3-2 and relied on Cavaré and Yiadom but provide the width and it just didn’t happen. We ended up playing incredibly narrow in that first half which resulted in a heavily congested centre of the park.
Yiadom might be able to play a wing back role on the right but playing on the left restricts his attacking potential significantly. On the basis he is our best right sided full back by a fair margin he should play there!
GK - Townsend RB - Yiadom RCB - Mills LCB - Lindsay LB - Pinillos RDM - Williams LDM - Mallan RM - Isgrove LM - Hammill CAM - Knasmullner ST - McBurnie * Stevie Mallan as a deep lying playmaker.. He can put in a tackle too which is good.
Would like to see this, partially because I'd like to see what knasmuller is like and think Mallan needs to start due to his threat from set pieces. However, I fully expect the same formation as against Wednesday following today's interview.
I agree, a change of formation does take time but I would like to see that line up or something similar. Do you think Mallan would be suited to that position?
Just my view but if we play 4-2-3-1, against the bottom side in the league, at home, when we desperately need a win, then I'd be deeply underwhelmed. Up and at 'em for mine - Hammill and Isgrove (replaced by Mallan at half-time if still not fit) wide supplying Moore and McBurnie.
And having watched every minute of every game this season and last, personally, I genuinely don't ever want to see Moncur start again. Not sure why moving his starting position a few yards would improve his heart, fitness, pace, vision, speed of pass, creativity or shooting. And he's always liable to lose us the game just like at QPR - all the lazy fecker had to do was whack a clearance away. My abiding vision of this player is giving the ball away at Brentford and just bending over and fiddling with his shin pad leaving his team-mates exposed and making no effort whatsoever to recover his own **** up.
I'm not sure, I do think he puts a shift in but not convinced he's the best at tackling. Wouldn't object against giving a slightly deeper role though.
