I'd really like to read his analysis of the first goal on Saturday. In oir situation, that ball should go down the line towards their goal, not infield to a player running towards his own goal
I think that entire phase of play (from Yiadom’s throw in to Mallan gifting away possession to defenders switching off to whatever Townsend was doing) can be summed up incredibly succinctly as being “woefully *****”.
that throw in that position should have gone up the line as much as a rate yids that was a school boy error , cost us the match in my opinion . usually sit in ponty end but had complimentary tickets for family stand with my lad ,and watching fans climbing up the hill back to tarn after 2nd goal was a sad sight that will stick in my memory
Mallan was finding space, something no other player was trying to do. He then tried to pass it back to a defender and hit it short. I don't know what "in our situation" means. The players should be coached to make themselves available for the ball forward, backwards and sideways from the thrower. That gives us options and keeps the opposition guessing. It was 0-0 in the 1st half of a game we had to win so why we should play it safe by throwing it down the line every time? If we do that the opposition soon knows where to put their men. The goal was caused by Mallan's sloppy pass and other players failing to show for Yiadom's throw.
“In our situation” means we are joint third bottom. We need to play percentages and get the ball forward/into the box at every opportunity, not look to retain possession at all costs as though that is all that matters.
Weve also got 6'7" striker to aim at down the line with mcburnie feeding off the scraps. Surely the best option.
