Fryers as played 17 games ,in those games we have got 22 points out of our total for season of 37 points,so in other 23 games without him we got 15points ,he as 1 goal and 2 assists. But no we have to have a player to hate ,one mis-placed pass from a player who does not hide and take the easy option and he is gash, and never forgotten, but any good things he may have done are ignored

He hasn’t been half as bad as some make out. Rarely costs us a goal through an individual error.

    Correlation doesn't imply causation!

I personally think he's alright. Not great, but not be either. Fairly solid in defense, but doesn't have a lot of creativity going forward.

It is just luck then that we average 1.3 points per game with fryers playing and 0.7 per game without him

Stats can show a lot of things. Arguments either way.

Zeki Fryers is not a championship quality full back.

I made this point during the game, he doesn’t just misplace passes, he runs down blind alleys, he rarely makes the right decision.

But he does hold the line well, very disciplined. They were offside more than was flagged second half, I’m sat in the family area in the east upper so had a decent vantage point.

But defensively in other ways he’s found wanting for me, too easily passed round or left by a runner. Twice at least today caught out by a quick throw or set piece.

To be fair he has a centre forward out of position playing in front of him, so he does get exposed a little.

But pinillos looks no better when available, I think he’s past what he had at forest. If Cavare can be trusted it might be worth looking at Yiadom at left back.

Fryers is game enough and he keeps going but he takes the wrong option and we lose the ball too often either directly from him or as he has passed to a man under pressure.

In his defence, today in particular, he often had no outlet. But that was the same for Yiadom who calmly played out and retained possession well.

I’ve no problem him playing, he never shirks responsibility and he’s the best we’ve available, but I don’t think he’s very good.

That doesn’t mean he’s any good. It just means that the alternative is even worse.

He’s not as bad as some make out, but I’m not exactly impressed by him.

I don’t usually like to comment on stuff like this, but first half today United focused on our left (their right) as an avenue of joy. They didn’t get any. They had ‘moments’, but that’s natural.

Second half, Wilder switched the focus. They went for our right flank and absolutely killed us for 15 minutes. The introduction of Duffy helped. Great player. Linked superbly with Clarke. Brooks is massively overrated.

So no, despite the opinions on here, Fryers and McBurnie were solid on the left.

But then, reading back through the threads, some of you have enough egg on your faces to cook breakfast for us all.

    Take care.

    And believe.

PS - the backing in the stands was superb today

Not sure you can surface without a full scrambled on your own chin, when before you disappeared your mantra was about how "we're gonna be alright".

It's all very well surfacing when we've actually managed to win a game at home. Do we only get a post when that happens?

This is a great post - my dad said the same thing - first half the Utd plan was to exploit us down their right, our left - literally 45 minutes of pressure for Fryers, second half they targeted the other side and I thought Yiadom struggled.

Their goals and chances came down the other side today - second half we were weaker on our other side as Whitey said

He's rubbish. How do u quantify giving loadsa waste passes away not challenging attackers not getting any blocks in not getting forward enough and contributing assists. To say hecky and Clapham were full backs they made some dog **** signings

In case you did not notice, we won today guys, we took back our destiny into our own hands again. FFS instead of having a witch hunt to find the poorest player can not just sit back and enjoy the moment.... and it was against the blunts too which should make it sweeter oh and also it was US with a late goal for victory this time. So come on guys cut back and ENJOY.

No. Hence my many posts, post-November 4th.

And no eggs, scrambled, boiled or fried. We are alright. Full stop. Better than, even.

Very good analysis. Was sat with a mate who is a scout today and yours and his analysis are pretty much identical.

Fryers is solid defensively in my book, but has little idea when he ventures beyond the half way line.
When we play two holding midfielders that is an issue, as full backs have to push on, more like wing backs.
We only played one holding midfielder today (Potts admittedly was further back than normal, but playing more of a box to box role, which I think could be his best position, if he keeps on improving, and he is). I do think having Yiadom in that position & McCarthy as other FB may be a better short term solution, if we revert to 2 holding midfielders. Would allow Yiadom to play McBurnie in more.

I though Gardiner was great today BTW, seconf to Moore for MOTM.

Well there have been precious few posts by you on here. "Likes" don't count.

And even if there had been, what's the point in saying previously that there wouldn't be any more?

Anyway, bottom 3 is obviously not "alright". In my book anyway.

Perhaps "alright" means financially sound, but in a lower league next season. Better than alright needs an explanation.

    Please.

Agree with that, by far the best analysis in this thread imho.

He also has a great hairstyle - something which is blatantly lacking from the stats.

I don’t really rate him but Pinillos is worse due to his lack of pace & physicality.

Fryers is so one footed, it’s embarrassing watching him routinely turn down the chance to play simple right footed passes because he’s got no confidence at all in his right foot. I can’t believe he came through at Man Utd & Spurs & it was never addressed
