I seem to recall hating the 2002 team with a passion for being so awful. The side that went down 4 years ago had relegation written through it like a stick of rock. Full of ageing ***** and players on far too much relative to their skill levels. This side is one I've not hated as much because they have clearly tried up to now and its not their fault they are collectively not up to it. But as a team, they must come close to ranking as the worst of the 3 as this year has thrown up so many poor sides and we are close to being the worst of the lot of them.
Maybe but I'd rather have this squad in league one than the last relegation squad. Some of these lads should do well in league 1.if we play 442 with these players moore bradhaw up front and hammill isgrove on wings we'd be a decent side in league 1??
It's the worst squad in terms of quality I've seen since I began watching Barnsley in the late 70s. It's not, however, the worst squad in terms of effort. We've had squads in the past that couldn't give a ****. These are not like that.
Yep Never properly replaced Hourihane then scowen. But two cm and 1 gk and there's a squad to work with I'd hope
Yeah, thats pretty much what I said really. Which is why, although I am thoroughly disillusioned with the state of the club, I can't let rip at the players in the same way as I could with the other 2 relegation squads. I ******* hated that 2002 squad. That Norwich "performance" still irks me now.
Not there but i think they’re completely devoid of any confidence and done in now. In general they’ve tried this year but fallen well short, poor team this one so little quality.
I just think we're rudderless now, no leader, a manager who really doesn't have a clue. That translates to the players, they don't know what they're doing, they don't know where they're supposed to be playing or what the manager expects of them and that results in what looks like a lacklustre performance.
I really think we are just seeing the season taking it's toll on the players. Must be mentally ruined this bunch.
Need to ditch Morais. Tonight summed his tenure up. Bizarre team selection. Zero passion. Players looking confused and out of position. No organisation. No cohesion. Give Bobby and Devaney the last couple of games. I’m out of patience.
Worse Reds team I've ever seen was McSeveney's team that was relegated from Division 3 in the 71/72 season.
The 2002 side had a fair bit of talent in it but the effort wasn't there. That was why that team was so disliked. The 2014 team was useless and jaded, screaming relegation. This one is possibly the least talented of the lot, but the effort shown for most of the season and my acceptance that they simply aren't good enough dilutes my disdain for them.
That squad in 01-02 went on a right rollercoaster, from early December onwards when Steve Parkin also won the manager of the month award. I remember a 3-3 against Bradford in January when Kevin Miller was a right liability in goal for us on the day, and then we fought back for a 4-4 at Portsmouth the following week. But by then it was clear we couldnt win anymore and we did indeed get dragged back into it. (there was also talk of us re-signing Ashley Ward who was out of favour at Bradford by that time but that signing would apparently have bankrupted us!!) And finally the Norwich game at home when they were going for the play offs, we havent forgot that have we.
