Listened to it every week at university, did I hear he sadly passed away? Very sad, was a lovely man.
You can join Barnsleys Foreign Legion on Facebook. Tina took over when Potty passed away mate if that helps.
thats where i used to go dave ,,i thought it stopped cause of the sad loss ,,, thank you though will try that
Hiya, Tina here. Like dave says me and a couple of others took over the foreign legion when Potty sadly passed away. Its well over 2 years since he passed, he had a massive heart attack. If anyone wants to join the foreign legion on fb then come and join in. Well over 350 members from all over the world. I do the audio stream for nearly every match which is posted there just before kick off.
I have been off Facebook for a while, but just logged back in and there was live commentary from the weeds match mate. I am sure there will be a live audio feed for tonight. I am hoping to listen to it at work.
I always liked Potty and I remember the big red teddy bear on screen during matches. I used to joke with him about those pesky Detroit Lions who were his 'local' Nfl team.
Happy days ...mushy pea pizza ...texting matt in turns to see who could get a mention on player...lol followed by football heaven praise and grumble..me saying am sat here in Portugal in mi lucky vest and pants and mi mush pea pizza which potty often made stable food for legionnaires and of course the bottle of red wine of course it was potty who held it all together by doing the streaming and the majority of the work..the potty half time entertainment ..pms not for the fainthearted..a mucky song for every occasion. The legion started off on a message board called time2talk which was born after the site we were all posting on got hacked and was taken over by spamming, covered all the teams in the division ..we had lads and lasses from all over the world ..many who ive never met yet have become good internet friends with and who keep in touch on face book .we speak often.. we even had our own rival to monkey who we took turns with ..our rival was Tommy Wassock who sadly got lost on his first outing out to Cypress we think he was lost in action seeing as Andys home was filled with Norwich supporters..lol... whod have thought that the big lad with the bad back Dave potty Arnold would be taken from us at such short notice..sadly missed might i add that Tina and the gang are doing a marvelous job and without them the legion would have closed as Iam not technically gifted when it comes to the computer and streaming...nor do i have the time to up date anything ...so massive massive thanks are sent in their direction.
Ahh yes, good old Bob. I remember Linz with her monkey thing and Czech Tyke were regulars as well Shed.
They were and Daryl from oz ....Crazee richard the ippy supporter ( one of many i keep in touch with lol) quite a few ...could be added to the list ..i always phoned into radio pig as bsly bry in portugal we used to see who could get the most mentions..it was really good banter at times with the live text it was like we were all back home on the ponty ..but whilst i set the whole thing up.... it was potty who like ive said before deserves all the credit he took it and ran with it just like Tina and the guys now ..the bloke was lovely to talk to he was funny as hell and of course without him there would have been no streaming ..many a time he call me and we would chat about family problems bad backs and stuff ..I remember the support from everybody in the legion that i got when my little lass was born and it was touch and go whether or not she would survive .. full 17 days in the intensive care ..each day not knowing if it could be her last..luckily it wasnt in fact she had her 11th birthday in march of this year ...the messages and calls i got from around the world were just amazing so heartfelt and touching...im sure everybody was praying for us..and especially for her to pull through . Lots of happy memories from the early days...Pottys half time music..i still dont know where he found them ...the airwaves Bluer than blue the language in some of the songs werent for the faint hearted..pmsl in fact we used to put a warning notice out because we used to get a fair amount of woman and school kids tuning in..but yeah he was a star ...can you remember the post...GOAL... and due to the stream having a time delay folk would be going who scored us or them ..then one of us would type...... Gawber working mens club 1 Cudworth Westend nil...then when we did score nobody would say anything then the board would go into melt down..lol.like it did the day we played Cardiff .. i think there was something like a 1,000 + hits causing the stream to crash..luckily we had another stream outlet.. that we quickly got going..... me hastily messaging regulars who in turn passed it on ...happy days ...we lost a good un when Potty went to the other side and left this earth plane...
Wow thats quite a big post to reply to Shed matey, I think I need a few days to read it all actually lol. I agree though while I obviously didnt know the bloke personally, I always liked Potty and Id like to think he liked me as well when we had a laugh about various non Barnsley things lol.
Still think about him we used to work at the same pit, keep seeing his dad in the bookies, I used to send him vegetable seeds through the post, Acrington Stanley was his 2nd team he would have been over the moon with them this year. Sadly missed.
I grew up with Dave(Potty), we went to junior school (Longcar)together, he was a bloody fast runner back then and daft as a brush. I can remember after the 1970 World Cup we were Brazillians, he was Jairzinho, only trouble was everytime he kicked the ball his shoe used to fly off !!! . He bought a motorised pushbike over in the States and he posted some daft videos of him on it. He was really happy over there and I still find it hard to believe he has gone.
Touched a lot of hearts did Dave Potty Arnold ..not only sadly missed by family but a lot of friends too
