"Kieffer Moore opened the scoring against the run of play when his attempted cross went in off the post." Note wording i.e. "attempted cross" ?? Putting aside the fact that close study of the replay suggest Moore looked where the keeper was and then hit the ball so it COULD just have been intentional, the fact that the cross went in means it was not attempted but a a successful cross "Brentford, who put a lot of pressure on the home defence but were ultimately disappointing, only managing two shots on target, slipped to ninth in the table." .... From the comments on the BB and other reports, it sounds like "2 shots on target" and the fact that the goalkeeper had little to do suggests otherwise.
Just that reporter's take on it. Given the disagreement on here about whether Moore's goal was intentional or a mishit cross, I think it's a fair comment. The rest of the report is pretty accurate too.
Having seen it with my own eyes, and several TV replays, I'm still unsure what Moore's actual intention was. If it went in purely by luck, so be it, about time we had some luck. He did miss a couple of sitters, but is a very valuable asset, as he doesn't get bullied by opposing defenders. Walton wasn't really tested, but looked very calm and composed and his kicking was great with both feet too. Pinnock and Lindsay kept their attacks at bay. There was a tackle by Lindsay which was sublime, if he got it anything other than perfect, it was a red card and penalty, but he nailed it to perfection. There was a great moment from Pinnock too where one of there attackers came at him, at speed and he stood firm, not backing off, then ushered him the width of the pitch, then halfway up the East Stand touch line, brilliant fighting spirit. Also, what highlights won't show you is Hammill playing with the energy of a man ten years younger. It's infectious and, for me, lifted the whole team AND crowd. You Reds!!!
I thought it was a real turning point as he got the ball looked up and saw nobody in a red shirt within 30 yards of him as usual. To my mind it was a metaphor for our season recently and he visibly appeared to me to look as if he thought '**** it' if Jose can't be arsed getting anyone up to support me I'm just going to swing my leg at it and see what the **** happens! I recognise the pretty stuff that Brentford played up to then but there was also two classic moments in the first ten minutes when Kieffer won towering headers and flicked them beautifully into the channel between the centre halves............just where McBurnie should have been running on to them if he wasn't playing left wing. Kieffer look sloughened. Moore's goal released the pressure for me and then three other things re-inforced what you can do when you're positive and prepared to get at the opposition, namely:- - Pinnock harrying and chasing their lad from inside the box halfway back down the field; - Lindsay's magnificent forceful saving tackle; and - Hammill snapping around their defence and deep midfielder's ankles on the edge of their box all the way through the second half.
If he meant it then it was a stunner. Now if we can only get him as clinical from 3 yards out we will have a player on our hands
Exactly as I see it...not to forget Potts and Gardner though who grafted hard for the full 94+ minutes.
Potts was anonymous in the first 45 minutes. He didn’t touch the ball in the first 20 minutes or get in the same post code to make a tackle. He did improve in the 2nd half though.
Obviously it's all about opinions but I thought he was influential in the first half and more so in the second.
U having a laugh it was a **** cross went wrong and if the fullback stuck his leg out he's gonna block it easy
