    Becomes the new Rangers manager.

    They must be desperate.

But it will be good to see him up against Brendan Rodgers .

Strange appointment...I can't think of a former top player who has been successful in management?

Depends on your definition of successful, but Dalgliesh, Keegan, McCarthy, Hoddle and Zidane would have been both top players and successful managers.

Desperate ? Ffs he’ll bring a wave of positivity and Ibrox will be bouncing they’ll sell loads of merchandise on the back of it , the media will be falling over themselves to cover rangers etc and if they start competing with Celtic he’ll be afforded legend status . Oh aye really desperate

He'll quit/be sacked by December. Basket case of a club living beyond its means relying on unprotected loans from wealthy fans.

Like i said, they must be desperate.

Gerrard obviously has little experience in management.

But he could prove me wrong.

It's a perfectly logical appointment. They were looking for someone to prevent Brendan Rodgers winning the league and Gerrard has done it before.

In the main you're right , I think some successful managers we're so **** at football it gave them more motivation(Cos they were probably skint) to succeed. Mourinho, Roy Hogson , Alex Ferguson , Arsene Venger come to mind. But there is/was some good players made a success of management:
    Pep
    Brian Clough
    Steve Bruce
    Antonio Conte
    Diego Simione
    Klopp
    Kevin Keegan

Very strange to my eyes and somewhat lacking in ambition. The only way he can prove himself is by overhauling Celtic and that's highly unlikely. That leaves finishing second which, given their massive support, should be a given.
If he'd gone to a club where he was taking a risk then fair play to him but Rangers.....it seems like he wanted a comfort blanket job.

For a club that's only been around six years, to appoint one of the best players of his generation is a massive coup.

I wish him all the best. Unfortunately fan expectations will be ridiculous. A very tough first job in management.
Previous manager did a decent job & got the boot & I fear the worst.

He decides to take a job in Glasgow in a two horse race pub league.

    Must be gay.

Gerrard will either succeed or fail spectacularly. Stranger things can happen. One of our fans has written into the Chronicle today, saying we should get rid of Jose and appoint Sol Campbell in his place. Could that be seen as viable.?

Decent appointment. Rangers are a club in desperate need of a lift, which Gerrard could give them. Still skint but needing quality players, he could attract a sprinkling of star dust that the likes of Graeme Murty couldn't. If nothing else it spices up what has been a one team league recently. I'm one of the few people who enjoy watching the Old Firm and I'm hoping for a more competitive rivalry.

It’s great news for Diversity. Never thought i’d see the Bluenoses appoint a British Catholic manager in my lifetime, and what they would call a ‘proper’ Catholic as well. One of Cardinal Heenan’s finest! Good luck to the lad but he’ll need it if things don’t click pretty quickly. Those fans who have a thing for Rangers ‘culture’ have a ready made stick which to beat him.

Ferguson was a very good goal scorer and played for Rangers... Klopp wasn't anything close to good even said so himself
