...at Port Vale was the last time Barnsley were relegated on the last day of a season. The relegations of 1998, 2002 and 2014 were already done and dusted with a game to spare. We survived on the last day at Plymouth in 2009 and Huddersfield in 2013. Let's add Derby in 2018 to that survival list.

I was there that day in 1972. Me and two of my fellow 15-year old mates hitchhiked it from Barnsley. About an hour before kick off we were stranded 15 miles away and it was pittling it down. This guy sees us, and probably more out of pity and curiosity than anything else, stops his car and asks us where we are going. He then went miles out of his way to get us to the ground on time. We lost 1-0 and were relegated. We managed to get a lift home with one of my mate's neighbours. Happy days...

We don't have a good record in World Cup years, do we?

Actually thats a very good point... look at our continued struggles in the seasons leading up to a summer World cup.
1989-90 when Clarkie was sacked and Machin took over, 1993-94 when Anderson did his best to take us down and then he peed off to Middlesbrough, 1997-98 yes it was the Prem but it was relegation, 2001-02 relegation again and administration later that year, 2013-14 relegation again down to Lg One.
So when the history books are written on season 2017-18, what are we going to say ?.
