Barnsley have been granted permission to speak to Fort William FC manager Paul MacLellan over the vacant managerial post at Oakwell. MacLellan has forced his way onto Barnsley's radar following Fort William's performance in the Scottish Highland League this season, with the focus on MacLellan's sheer drive for defensive perfection and free flowing attacking play. Fort William Currently sit bottom of the Highland League, amassing an impressive 5 points this season from only 34 matches, scoring a lofty 31 times, whilst only conceding a more than respectable 184 goals. It will be hard for the Barnsley hierarchy to ignore MacLellans impressive stats and make what would surely be a statement of intent for next seasons league 1 campaign, following the departure of fans favourite and former Batman villain Jose 'Riddler' Morais. It is expected that should Barnsley confirm the appointment, MacLellan may move straight away to strengthen the Reds defence bringing with him Fort William's current central defensive pairing.
Given that their best results appear to be a couple of 1-1 draws and the worst a16-0 reversal l take it this a ‘tongue in cheek ‘ posting?
If it’s the same interview process and people selling the club to him as last time then he’ll probably pull out of the process half way through!
Whilst on the subject of Fort William FC's heroics this season... Chuffin elll, fancy losing 16 nil, then knowing you live just over the hill and have just missed the last bus back. Makes that slow disappointing walk back up Belgrave Road from Oakwell look more than inviting haha..
Oh come on now, we've got loftier ambitions than that. Surely we'd target the Strathspey Thistle manager initially?
Can GG sort us a pre season friendly up there? Altho imagine if they thrashed us then kidnapped our goalscoring iconThiam.. Nah, don't do it GG, won't end well.
I've had a closer look at this and, if that's the case, we need to go back in with an improved offer. Fort William conceded 184 goals where as Strathspey only let in 124. In a 34 game season that's nearly two goals per game less. Chuck that statistic into the spreadsheet and those cells will be auto formatted green all day long!
Having been to Fort William on various occasions, driving past their ground each time at the foot of Ben Nevis, I've noticed that they are habitually at the bottom of the Highland League by 3 country miles every season. Given that Fort William is a decent sized town for the Highlands, I've always thought that quite strange. What a setting though for football, the pitch literally touches the mountain that sits under the main Ben Nevis peak.
