somebody whose granny / next door neighbour is shagging a helicopter pilot who knows somebody who is a taxi driver who had somebody in his cab who knows summat about our next manager.....
Thing is the next 6 weeks are crucial, having the vast amount of your squad in place come the first day of pre season training is a massive thing, we hear it as an excuse on here all the time, yeah he looks off the pace but he didn’t have a pre season, or let’s see what he’s like after having a pre season with the club, yet this time of year people seem to be relaxed and think we have all the time in the world. But we don’t the next 6 weeks are probably the most critical time off the year for any football club recruiting at the right time is just as important as who you recruit. So in typical Barnsley FC fashion I’m expecting us to announce the new head coach in mid July, and start loaning in young kids the week after, so in my opinion it’s far too early to be speculating on who the new head coach will be.
In fairness, historically transfers don’t start until July as most players go away. That’s not just us football in general
I doubt they're in any rush, and an ambitious manager is going to keep his options open for a while, I'd probably wait until the middle of June at the earliest before getting a contract out.
Well my guess is this They must have known there was a chance he was going So if it was an out of work manager he would have been installed by now Therefore - More likely than not it’s a manager still managing and even more likely that it’s a manager from one of the teams in the play offs. My guess is therefore someone like Paul Hurst. Either that or they have no fcking clue on how to run a business / football club.
I'd rather they took their time and got it right. Not to the stage where the season has kicked off, but a few weeks isn't an issue for me. The candidate/s may still be in a job, they may still be engaged in the playoffs. When the appointment comes though, I'd like greater clarity on how the decision was arrived at, the process for conducting the appointment and why the candidate is the best choice to fit with their ambitions and strategy. That final part means they will have to actually outline ambition and strategy. I'll give them last season, as car crash as it was. GG made an interesting comment in his statement after Derby..... essentially stating they would have liked to have started the "project" in the Championship. Maybe all this time they've been getting things orchestrated, formulating plans. But whether they have or they haven't, the fanbase will want some communication, some suggestion of intent, some suggestion of a plan and what the club has been acquired for and how they intend to go about that. It's a fresh start, I'm not assuming anything we used to do will continue, and I'm not assuming we're spending billions to reach the promised land in 5 years. I just simply want to know what the aim is, what the approach is, and what I can expect from the management and team when I go and watch my team. I don't think that's an unreasonable thing to ask.
The not having a preseason excuse is bull for several reasons to me themain ones are any pro footballer should never get un fit nither at the end ,middle or beginning of the season any pro footballer should have had a preseason some where
No idea, old mate, sorry. At a guess, I think we'll bring in an up and coming manager (eg. Gareth Ainsworth, Paul Hurst, Derek Adams, Paul Tisdale, Nathan Jones, Jack Ross, Paul Warne) , rather than go down the experienced man (eg. Mick McCarthy, Chris Coleman, Ian Holloway, Alan Pardew, Steve Cotterill) route. This is pure, unadulterated speculation on my part. Not fact, nor opinion passed off as fact. Cue Simon Grayson getting appointed next week!
I'll say: The new boss is a ***** appointment. The new home kit's *****. The away kit also *****. New signings...*****. Pre-season friendlies, *****. Just thought I'd get in first...
Thanks o wise one should have consulted the guru to start with Mind now our seasons over I like a good rumour
At times like this I'm glad I know nothing about football. It means I don't suffer from the angst & anger like those who believe they know best when choosing either a particular individual, a managerial type, or being convinced who they know definitely WON'T be any good as our new gaffer. Like your good self, I too enjoy reading the gossip and rumours, though.
If iit had been Macca or Grayson am sure that rumours would be flying around and odds movement. But nothing,it's all static. That suggests the board don't know who they want yet..
Boo! Fence sitting, dilettante, namby pamby, excuse me for breathing, after you Claude, pardon me for breathing politically correct, pale grey, dull as dishwater rubbish. You need to go away, have a long think and come back tomorrow with some proper knee jerk, over the top, utterly bonkers opinions. Get a grip man.
We may find out more over next week or so I reckon. especially if they are targeting someone like Hurst or Cowley as neither will be up for any talks until their clubs Playoff campaigns are done.
That's my feeling, although the Cowleys seem to have made it pretty clear they've got a job to finish at Lincoln, which includes having a crack at League 1. Fair play to them, it shows loyalty in this awful day and age. Plus I've got a lot of friends who support Lincoln, who would be none too pleased if we poached them! Personally, I want Paul Hurst, but if Shrewsbury go up I'm not sure how likely he is to join us. Suspect we'd be able to quadruple his wages though, whatever league they're in.
Don't forget in all this that they're are one or two players at Oakwell who are not sure about their futures, issuing of retained lists and all that. So will they be held in limbo until a new manager is installed?
