My view is that we could do with one more striker but it is the midfield that is the main issue We haven't replaced scowen and one of mowatt, mcgheegan, Potts, moncur, mallan need to step up to the plate and take hold of their career in the way hourihane did. There is talent there with most of them. However, a preferred option would have been not to have spunked money on 5 players and wages to replace one, and gone for one quality player with one loanee understudy. Between those 5 the wages will be nearly as much as hourihanes. But, sigh, we are where we are. Quality over quantity please. A nasty ball winner in the mould of Sheridan or scowen is absolutely essential if we are to succeed next year. I think we will be ok defensively. Need a new keeper too.
Need to leave this Fletcher thing in past now. Yes he did well for us a few years ago on loan and was a big part of JPT and Play-off win but time has moved on. He went to West Ham and it did not work for him there and then he went to Boro where he's not been able to make an impact. He then spent time on loan in Sunderland where they slated him to hell saying he was useless. The money it would cost to bring him here even on loan would be huge I imagine and he has not shown for a long time any sort of form. There are far more strikers around that I would take before Fletcher 3 being in our club already in Bradshaw, Moore and even Victor who surely should be given a bench spot at least. If we are going to go get another striker in which I assume we will and I do think we need one, we need to be aiming for someone with a better record than Fletcher and someone that will be far cheaper.
I tend to agree. He's been stale for a long time now. Only if he was prepared to roll his sleeves up, accept a realistic salary would I reckon it was a decent move for us and then it would only be with him as one of four strikers at the club.
McGeehan was clearly not every fully fit. If he can get back to how he was playing for Luton the season before last, he's going to be a key player for us.
If both Bradshaw and Moore are here next season, I'll be staggered. I think its more likely neither will be here, than both will be here. Bradshaw was attracting championship interest, and a team who likes playing hoof with 2 strikers will no doubt have seen what a handful Kieffer can be.
Even if he did accept a decent wage the issue would be the fee. If Boro did want rid they would want to recoup as much as they can for him, they spent around 7 million on him. In my opinion from what he has done in the last few seasons anything more than 1.5 million would be too much. The only deal that would suit us would be if Boro agreed to pay the majority of his wage and send us him on loan but even then with his recent record I would be tempted to look elsewhere.
Agree about Bradshaw. Not long left on his contract, time to cash in and buy some pace. As for Moore - he's only been with us for a few months, and is under contract I'm pretty sure he'll be a key player next season, so I can't think why we'd sell him unless someone offered silly money for him - which I just don't see happening right now.
I thought your punishment had a time limit on it rather than being permanent. I hope you're not going native!
Maxine went for SIX Million ! So using that as a yardstick it seems any average striker ( and GM is bang average) is now going to cost a fortune . People keep saying footballs going to go pop but there’s no evidence of this happening , in fact it’s going rapidly the other way !
