Article written by a stooge of the Peterborough owner. Which manager in their first ever job doesn’t have a small run of games. If he’s learnt from any mistakes he’s made, and perhaps the key is the team around him, then more than willing to give him a go.
You don't know that to be ture... at best its your opinion. And why attack the Peterboro owner. He actually puts his money where is mouth is.. is not a push over when it comes to other clubs wanting his players. Also conducts his clubs affairs in a pretty transparent ways. So where you get "knob of a chairman" from Christ knows. Anyway it makes no difference you can be as happy as you want with Grant McCann. My view is, if he's the best we can attract then somethings awfully wrong at BFC... No thanks not for me.
That’s a shame, I think he would have done well with us but if that’s the case, we really should go all out to land Ainsworth. Ticks all the right boxes and would give fans something to be excited about whereas a McCann appointment would be an instant buzz killer.
No worries mate. If you know owt about the owner then you’d know why I say that. Alan Swann is the local reporter who was very tight to McCanthony. Their relationship is mutually beneficial. Swann writes what McCanthony wants the fans to read, and Swann gets premium access to McCanthony for interviews. Puts his money where his mouth is??? Really??? 15/16 - bought £300k. Sold £3m 16/17 - bought £100k. Sold £650k 17/18 - bought £450k. Sold £0. That is what McCann was dealing with. Any decent players are sold. Not too dissimilar to how we have operated. If you think McCanthony puts “his money where his mouth is” then I’m not sure there’s much point discussing this issue with you. I like Peterborough, and have a lot of friends who support them having lived nearby in Cambridge for a number of years.
I'd be totally on board with us taking McCann on. He likes to play attacking football and when he took over at Posh they were near the bottom. He had to turn them round and did. He's a very driven guy and doesn't take any crap. He's only 38 and already got over 100 games managerial experience. He's also got a 40% win rate. I used to train at the gym with him at times, he's a straight talking bloke who wants to get on. He played the majority of his career at league 1 level so knows what it's all about. Folk will say it's the cheap option, but he's a guy with something to prove.
If you look at it in a positive way they lost 2 of his last 12 games, they were 6 points behind the play offs but had 2 games in hand.Personally I prefer an up and coming manager than the regular merry go round of managers.
I fail to see why McCann would be so bad and Ainsworth would be so great. Especially if it comes to Lg One experience or the lack of it. I still think Gary Bowyer at the Lashers would be a good choice.
Would be Bowyer for me aswell.. I see Bowyers odds are coming in abit, looks like folk are back off their jollys now and things are starting to move.
Summed up very well and my thoughts exactly. I've lived close to Peterborough all my life and have lots of mates who support them and the vast majority have the same opinion of MacAnthony. He's brought in some serious coin but by all accounts has spent very little. Not sure id want an owner who spends so much time on Twitter too
I think the bit that rankles most with the supporters I know is that he’s made Peterborough all about him. Only he is allowed to announce transfers, he publically undermines managers, he singles out players for criticism after losses. Give me an owner with a modicombe of class or decency any day. It was all going horribly wrong, hence why he’s been desperate to get other investors on board and has ended up with the canadians owning half the club.
I bet swann doesn't have a permanent desk inside their stadium though does he and I bet McCanthony doesn't deny knowing him
I don't get all of the negativity, we were never going to appoint a big name. Whoever we get will be a young coach who knows the league. Since when have Barnsley appointed a big name and it's worked out? Spackman came with a fanfare and almost bankrupted us buying 30 midfielders. Nobody wanted Bassett yet that team was amazing until it got dismantled. Wilson 1st time round didn't inspire and we know how that ended. We need someone to get the best out of the squad we have. Someone to push our academy kids. McCann knows the club and the ex players connected to the academy. Who'd have thought Alex Neil would have turned out to be a Premier League manager? Whoever gets it give them a chance.
Cant argue with what uv said to be honest but i just feel there is better options out there than Mcann..... If your going to go for an unproven youngish head coach at least pick one thats had a little success with his current/previous club! Ainsworth, hurst, bowyer all done well so i can see why they would be given a chance.
Changed the outlook of the club , got huge crowds home and away and a feel good factor the like of which has never been seen since . That period was the best ever time to be a Barnsley fan and something akin to that now would be brilliant .
