Were we once told we were behind all the other clubs in the division as far as making new signings was concerned because we were promoted through the play-offs, so didn't know which division we would be playing in and which players to recruit until well after everyone else? Is that a factoid or have I gone a bit loopy?
Question is then, was that a load of nonsense, or have we hamstrung ourselves by taking such a long time to appoint a new manager that we're now past the play-off matches and in a worse position than that year? Or, alternatively, doesn't it matter because the manager/head coach doesn't sign the players anyway?
I thought that weeks since... excuse for/if ***** start to the new season... nailed on.. Not his fault, only been at the club 6 minutes.. not had a proper pre-season... not his players yada yada..
Aye it wouldnt suprise me..... Definitely cant use the excuse that players need to gel for a change tho seen as majority of them have had a full season together
That’s exactly it my friend. Doesn’t matter who’s standing in the dugout as long as they’ve got the necessary coaching badges. Hierarchy purchase players that have been selected via ‘the system’ the coach coaches tactics and potentially moulds a better player out of the one signed.
Now playoff are done I'm expecting an appointment soon. I expect a lot of things. Not all of them happen though.
maybe we should let someone who knows about football and players decide on players and let the suits do the contracts etc that's why an ex manager for example McCarthy would be invaluable behind the scenes
I think the club should use this opportunity (now) to send a real message to the fans. Stop messing about with players coaches...contracts etc and let's get our business done early for a change.......
Two schools of thought,I regularly talk to a ‘football manager’ as a friend, he manages a professional club, it’s harder work than you think arranging contracts and hotel rooms and cars etc and for instance as well as coaching the necessary tactics for the next game. I personally like a ‘manager’ but the new thinking and the one we seem to be using is head coach. Nothing but teaching football. Hence, why Heckingbottom didn’t get much of a day and just tried to bring the best out of a group of players.....
I think this close season is totally different to last close season , every one was in agreement that we needed to sign players to longer contracts & the club duly obliged & therefore instead of the 15 or so players that were required last summer we probably only need to recruit 4 or 5 this year as we still have a fairly top heavy squad especially as we recruited heavily only last january . I am beginning to pick up panic vibes amongst some of our fans but I really do not understand why but of course any reason to have a pop at the club seems to be popular right now
We haven't got many decisions right in the last 2 years. The fans can be forgiven for feeling rather uneasy.
That was the excuse given a few years ago when Ritchie got us promoted Last promotion via the playoffs the team was already good enough for the Championship so it wasnt such a big deal Mind you last year we knew what division we were going to be in by January and which players were going and we still screwed it up
Agreed things need putting in the right direction , but club bashing at every opportunity seems to be on the up , people want things putting right but seem to want everything done instantly but common sense says there is no magic wand & change & improvement can take time
