According to Daily Mirror this morning, James Bree is being paid £23,000 per week at Villa. Can't and don't blame the lad for moving to Villa but this is symptomatic of the financial mess they are in (imho). For goodness sake he's only been a fringe player for them last season.
Terrible career move as he doesn't play. He's made more money since moving there then he would in years at Oakwell but could have a long term impact on his future.
And your point is? He can buy 28 £800 jumpers a week if he really wants to. He was always going to be a fringe player there but earn coin whilst doing so. He’ll find a new club soon and start actually playing again I would guess.
£1.1 million for a player who is unproven at Championship level is crazy. Who is going to sign him on on thoise wages?
Committed to three years at that level as well. Landsbury has three years to go as well. He's on £40k per week. Three players have two years left re- McCormack £40 k , Kodjia 35k and Chester 30k per week and Jedinak is on £50 k per week with a year to go. No wonder they're in trouble. Absolutely barmy.
Not if he's daft enough to spend £800 on a jumper. Don't forget the tax man will take a big chunk of it.
My point is a 19 year old Yorkshire lad has so much money he does not know what to do with it so he spends it a bit silly on items that would usually be a hell of a lot cheaper. My point is also that young players get paid far too much before really having a kick at their football club. I sense you are looking to be argumentative over a jumper comment.
yep, it's one million English pounds per year. In perspective, I'm self employed and some years barely make more than he does in a week. We do have a right to feel well pissed !
Terrible career move, could have developed really well for us and then pulled a john stones. Hurt his long term earnings now for a quick pay check
You can't buy a massive house or £800 jumpers with "coulds" and "ifs." I recall that he had a fair amount of injury trouble with us. It's equally as valid to say he could have crocked himself and only ended up with the remainder of his ten bob per week contract with us before leaving football. I don't understand how people can say that securing your long term financial stability is a bad move in a profession as volatile and unpredictable as professional football.
He passed up the chance of going to Man U at the age of 16. That to me shows that he has a bit of nounce. He can’t give up every opportunity that comes his way, at some time he has to believe in himself and back his ability. He moved on a long term deal to a team that was in the same division he was currently playing in and one that had a good chance of being promoted to the Premiership within a few seasons. At some point you just have to take the chance, had he turned them down he might never have got an opportunity like it again. Worst case scenario when signing was he gets paid a few million quid, best case is he becomes a Premiership footballer. I doubt getting relegated to League One with us would have helped his situation much.
Not argumentative, it’s just he can spend his money on whatever he wants. He earned the move to them to earn said money. I actually agree with you though (something that doesn’t happen too often) many young players do earn a lot of money too soon in their careers and it impacts their career as they often lose the “drive”. I guess with Bree we will soon see if he’s a footballer to earn money or to have a decent career actually playing (which should lead to decent money anyway).
Me n all . Bang average footballer earning 6x what he was on at Oakwell good luck to him . He’ll be able to show his grandkids his wage slips at least !
In hindsight - I'd say he moved from us at exactly the right time for him, he was looking fairly good in a team that looked good, allowing most of the players to be admired. His stock would have continued to decrease playing for the team that was left after that January.
Can understand everyone's sentiments about his future career prospects, but faced with the prospects of a £3.55 million contract, its easy to see why he made the decision to join Villa. I know his Uncle. They are a very quiet modest and reserved family who are careful with their money. On the male side they have been or still are Firemen, Policemen, Railwaymen, so by comparison, young James has broken the mould and is literally " made" for life.
