The difference is anything he 'gives' is clearly humour and a joke, it's never serious What he 'received' didn't seem to be a joke. 'anti English bile' sounded very personal to me. Maybe that's not how it was intended but how it came across
If he was that anti English I doubt he'd spend his hard earned time and money coming down to Barnsley to watch and support an English football team or to make some good English friends in the process. He's having a bit of banter that's all and is more than capable of taking it as well as giving it.
