Aqua fish bar in Mapp. I've been going years and never had a bad meal. That , or Y-Pas up Kexborough also serve up a treat.
Tunstall Cross is also open 11.30-1.30 on them days as well I think. Top chippy that. Also reccomend Darn's on Summer Lane in town, they do crinkle cut chips which is quite a novelty!
Princes is the place if youre in town. Other than that, the Codfather is always perfection and does a good fish bite special. As for Y Pass.. although ive heard top reviews on it I just cant bring myself to try it. The name just puts me off big style
Its their choice of course and Im not criticising them. I just find it odd that you'd have a building and fixtures that are sat dead for 158 hours a week. It becomes dead money. Obviously if they are happy with the money ten hours makes them then fair enough but I've noticed it always seems to be chip shops rather than any other business really
Used like gordons indarfield. Amazing home made fishcakes. Also enjoyed mermaid in barnsley. Gordons is not chippy now not sure if mermaid is still going in town centre
They open during the hours that folk want to eat fish and chips, can't imagine many folk wake up and fancy it or sit at their desk mid afternoon and think about nipping out to get fish and chips. It's a tea time thing. Excluding when you're at the sea side, then its fish and chips all day every day. ...and pickled cockles. And waffles and ice creams...and fish and chips.
Perhaps some have tried and the custom doesn't make it worth the cost of opening. As you say a lot of chippys are the same.
Agree with them being better before they moved. I live on Station Road and the smell used to drift up the street and make you drool, making me and the missus have them a lot more than we probably should have, but they always hit the spot. Since they moved they became very hit and miss to the point that we rarely go to Shaws anymore.
