I used to work with a George Rayner from Hoyland. Wonder if he was related. He was the shearer driver on our coal-face. He transferred to our pit when Skiers Spring/Platts Common pit closed.

Skiers at Hoyland Common was part of Rockingham.. I doubt he'd have been there in the 80s

He said he was transferred from skiers to his pit and he drove the shearer at his pit during the eighties not shearer driver at skiers on the eighties

That’s right a small group of men transferred to Houghton Main pit in the early 80s. They always referred to themselves as Skiers Spring men. I would guess that this George Rayner would be about in his mid 70s now (if still alive of course)

    Donny Rovers 1967-1968
George and his wifes ashes are in an unmarked grave in elsecar. A few of us have met with his remaining family to try and get some recognition on the grave. We are slowly moving forward with it and the council have already started to renovate the grave site. We have written to all the top clubs where george managed to ask for an auction item. Guess what we have not had one reply. Never mind we will fundraise in our local pub to cover it. Onwards and upwards.
