A keeper...We went down last year from having a poor keeper. We need an experienced quality keeper to help our back four...wish we had heinz muller again... Keepers are as vital as goalscorers and we cant rely on young walton....davis needs to be free transfer...

We went down last season for having the third worst team in the division. Pinning the fault on one player in one position is nuts.

Aside from McBurnie we were bad from front to back.

He's right that we went down for having an out of form (as opposed to a poor) keeper. His mistakes made the difference between survival and relegation.

However we also went down by having a striker who missed sitters.
A full back who has the temperament of a school child.
Another full back who had a very poor season
A centre back who made numerous **** ups
Midfielders who put in so little effort it was unbelievable.

The list goes on and on. Our whole team wasnt good enough not just one player so while he's right to say poor goalkeeping should have been addressed close season he's wrong to pin everything on that one position

To be fair if Davies hadn't dropped one of them clangers against either Bristol, reading or Bolton we would be in the championship our mistake was we never had a decent back up and we kept playing Davies when his confidence was rock bottom.

*Davies, who has a 1 in 3.5 clean sheet rate at the club, made the most saves of any keeper in the Championship two years ago. But yes mistakes against QPR and Villa sent us down, not the various other reasons why we actually went down. Walton has played 3 games for us, two he played well in, one the entire team was awful, after a couple of mistakes against a team made up mainly of ex-Prem players.

He was routed to his line for Bolton 2nd. I haven't gone through the whole season but those were just off the top of my head. I like Adam Davies he is a decent keeper but we should of never had Townsend as a back up in the championship and Davies should of been rested when his confidence dipped imo.

I do think we need a new keeper. Walton may or may not make it.
A sweeper / keeper with decent distribution would be ideal for this system.

Main priority must be a holding midfielder though. Would ideally like a Harvey Barnes type kid, probably on loan.

Home or away? Neither goal at home was his fault the 2nd was Yiadoms its pretty hard to save anything when you’ve got another bloke sat on you

I think we went down because we made no real effort to replace the goals lost with Hourihane and Winnall leaving. We didn't concede many more goals last season than the one before. The drop off in goals scored was huge and ultimately cost us.

It's telling that Nick Townsend has recently been just a trialist at non league Telford.

I think your correct about hourihane. If we could have persuaded him not to take the extra 20k a week, a realistic shot at going up, playing in front of 30 odd thousand a week and throw away his international ambitions to stay at a club he’s got no connection whatsoever with, he’d have made the difference.

That isn't what he said is it. Apart from the fact that Hourihane stated publicly that he was never offered a contract extension in the summer or the fact that when WE chose to sell him mid contract the point he was making was that we didn't replace him

In reality we got relegated as a result of some shocking refereeing over the whole the season. Every home game saw a crucial decision go against us , what if moment. Then the erroneous penalty against Bolton just about sums up last season

Cannot believe relegation is being pinned on one player.

I would suspect that keeper is on our priority list behind: a defensive midfielder, a winger or 2 and a striker. So yeah, not likely to happen I wouldn’t have thought.

Davies problem is nothing about him is natural, everything looks so coached. Even his decision making, he has no football brain. If this new manager intends to play the way the clubs banged on about then a new keeper is a must because I've never seen a keeper less comfortable on the ball ever.

If you say so if I remember right they were both at fault. Like I say I like Davies but he cost us so many goals over the season it was unreal. giving away a needless pen against villa when adhomah was it?was going no where. These are just ones off the top of my head. I hope next season his confidence is back and he can kick on. And we keep him away frpm the captain/vice captain ******

We should of replaced Townsend last summer 12k supporters knew he wasn't decent backup in league one when lee Jay was in charge never mind been a 2nd choice championship keeper.
