They could call it off... and we could sue them for the 1mn (potentially the 1.25 depending on the likeliness of the add-ons), so I don’t see that happening.
There might be some clauses in there to protect both parties but whatever happens between now and January the deal will go through.
Unless there's a get-out clause from either side, which I doubt there will be, he signs for them in January and we pocket the money. This is why I find these loan-with-a-view-to-buy moves rather strange and awkward. If he bombs, cant score and is generally not doing well, it'll be an awkward one shelling out loads of money for him. We'll have the same issue with a possible replacement. We might sign Chaplain, he doesn't fit in and does nothing of note, but we then have to pay a significant fee regardless even knowing he's likely to be off again. It could work the other way too, if Bradshaw and his replacement turn out to be awesome, both clubs may have s good deal on their hands. You're essentially gambling on a player's likelihood of doing well, knowing that you've got to pay a fixed fee regardless of performances.
Was our Morsey deal a loan with view to buy jobber, or was it just assumed we'd buy him in January with him having been completely frozen out at Wigan at the time?
I don't like these loans with a view to a permanent signing jobs. Makes a mockery of having a transfer window. In my opinion the loan window and the transfer window should close at the same time to remove this as an option as it is basically just playing fast and loose with the rules.
It was an option to buy - we had agreed the fee if we wanted to go ahead but it wasnt binding on either side if he had been no good we would have just returned him in January. I think they had to sell him if we stumped up the cash as long as he agreed personal terms - WIgan offered him a better deal than we did so the deal never went through
I find it hard to believe they are obliged to buy him in January. So if he does his cruciate to be out for a year or doesn't score a goal, do we actually believe a seven figure deal will become permanent in January.....
I'm pretty sure that legally they are. We will have made sure that they are contractually obliged to do so. Otherwise we'd be sending him on a "try before you buy" basis, which surely we would never have allowed for obvious reasons.
Yes we do. Which idiot would ever agree to allow a footballer to play for another team at his own risk? Whilst weakening his own team in the process?
Hope you're right. Would never wish any injury on him, but if he tanks and ends up in a year or so back in league one, that would be quite funny after joining the worse possible club.
