Incompetent management, or the club making sure they squeezed every last possible penny out of Millwall, to get the best possible deal for BFC? I know where I stand on this one.
I would guess that the club never intended to sell and rejected all offers until the point in time when Bradders southern based GF's pregnancy got to a stage when he himself requested the move to be closer. IMHO of course.
Obviously that's well within the realms of possibility, and I have no real idea what went on behind closed doors. But we're clearly in a very good state financially and with successful businessmen in charge of the club. Therefore it stands to reason that we would only accept what was considered the best possible deal for BFC, taking into account the player's alleged wish to leave, the length on time left on his contract etc.
Apparently Millwall broke their transfer record with this signing reported as £1m I would hope that we have plan B ready to go.
What's clearly riled a lot of people is the timing of Tom's departure. I just don't believe GG when he talks about having other targets ready to go, why weren't we more proactive in bringing in these targets sooner when we knew it was likely Bradders would be off. Suppose Moore picks up a serious injury at the weekend then we are left with one fit striker and are in a right mess. BFC have known all summer if not immediately following relegation regarding Bradshaw's situation and have done nothing about it.
Just because nothing has been announced, it doesn't mean nothing has been going on behind the scenes. Why wouldn't you believe GG (and Winkler, who has said pretty much the same thing)? I'd be utterly astounded if we didn't bring anyone in by the end of next week. If that ends up being, the case, fair enough, there should indeed be questions being asked. But until then, I've got full confidence in the club to replace Bradshaw with someone of equal or better ability, who will have a lot more than ten months left on his contract. Feel free to bump this to the top if I turn out to be wrong!
I'm not really that fussed as I've seen it all hundreds of times before, and nothing surprises me. But bringing in a replacement before a player leaves is like equalising before going a goal behind.
Waiting for Swansea to get someone else in the building contributed to missing out on McBurnie last August. There's no reason that we couldn't have insisted the same.
The timing is clearly awful and does our club no good whatsoever in terms of fan relations and how we are perceived in the transfer market. We don't know how much the family situation has influenced Bradshaw, I would imagine it has focussed his mind but he could have wanted a return to the Championship regardless. I kind of think he wanted to go to Millwall earlier, we rejected all bids and now Millwall have failed to acquire other options, they've come back in with a decent bid, Bradshaw has said he's very keen to go and we've felt it was the right thing to do. Whether that was out of respect to him or to serve our own interests who knows? Even with the awful timing, the move DOES make sense if we have a replacement lined up. But this replacement must be of similar quality, not just a body to fill a place in the squad. The next few days will dictate how we look on this deal. A good replacement coming in will see me content with the money obtained and a player who wanted to go off our books. No adequate replacement and we've shot ourselves squarely in the foot.
Perhaps we are sticking to the salary cap protocol which is monitored on a regular basis. If we carried the same squad as last year, even with a few on reduced wages, with a turnover at least £6m lower then we would have broken the caps almost certainly. In L1 and L2 you can’t just throw wages around and carry a bloated squad. Perhaps Bradshaw moving on is the trigger that lets us bring in 1 or 2 of our top targets. We’ll have to wait and see. I don’t think our board are likely to have been sat twiddling thumbs. It’s not like they need a few numptys on twitter, Facebook of fans forums to tell them how to run a football club. Although the Nudger hotline to “GG” has probably rung off the hook today.
Well Mr Winkler said not this very morning... GG and the spin team put out a damage limitation statement at tea time and bingo... the spoon feed are sat open mouthed yet again eating up the ... official line..
I always thought that Bradshaw and his family were from the West Midlands. Didn't he say that his relatives are all massive Villa fans. His hat trick against Villa really owed them off ! So, how is going to London , going "home?" Confusing.
Speaking as one of the 'spoon fed', I'm grateful that the more knowledgeable are willing to help me. http://barnsleyfc.org.uk/threads/king-keef.271085/
He's never lived in London. Born in Shrewsbury, grew up in a small town just north of Aberystwyth, which is why he started his career there. Then moved back to Shrewsbury, then Walsall, then to us, (but he lives somewhere near Huddersfield doesn't he?)
Maybe we're trying to get the deal(s) over the line? It took Millwall long enough to prize Bradshaw off us. Perhaps it's taking us just as long to persuade Stuart Rimmer to come out of retirement......
As far as im aware his Girlfriend is a london based actress and is pregnant due in a few months. I believe thats why he wanted the move, but i might be wrong.
