Years ago before they started to rebuild at Boundary Park it consisted of delapidated old wooden stands, and the walk to the ground generally filled you with a tremendous feeling of gloom and despondency. Plus the fact that we always seemed to lose. More than anything it was ALWAYS so bloody cold and windy. A game there in winter was a test of personal survival and endurance. However the journey there was a pleasure, Cawthorne, Holmfirth and Saddleworth moor.
If you go make sure you get wrapped up. I was told it's the highest ground above sea level in the U.K. I can believe that it was freezing last time I was there.
Soz about duplication regarding comments about Boundary Park. Tried posting comments twenty odd minutes ago, but for some reason it wouldn't go through.
Highest ground above sea level in England is the Hawthorns, home of West Brom as every sad statto and quizzer knows. Still always bloody cold at Boundary Park though.
That was the game I attended. Bitterly cold. Just checked. It's the third highest behind the Hawthorns and Port Vales ground. Joe Royle called Boundary Park Ice Station Zebra.! He's not wrong.
Remember that, came thru on radio that game was off just going up slip road from 62, ended up going straight round the roundabout & back on the 62, we weren't best pleased.......
Could be much worse than that ... we might get a referee who gives a penalty against us when our player is two yards away from the one that falls down. Now who was that?
