Yep. When we beat the great Chelsea team at the WELL in the FA Cup a few years ago - it was voted at some media gathering as the best atmosphere of the season. So - it can be done. Owners and CEO take note.
I was defo there for Bradford! It's the obvious other candidate, but almost double the crowd v Man City plus standing.
Yep me too. Reckon I was probably 2/3 the way back behind the goal. After Aylotts header went in I was pretty much near the front ! Unforgettable night. Remember rushing home to watch those Sportsnight highlights....
Think the Swansea tie was over 2 legs. We won the home leg 2 0 and were trailing 0 2 in the second leg at their place. Neil Cooper scored in ET to win it for us if my memory is right....?
Well Nudge this proves that you don't read threads thoroughly . See my post #2 . By the way what has this to do with the Owners and CEO ?
Swansea, like Brighton, were also riding high in the old First Division at the time. I have it in my head that all three were in the top six at the time we played them.
The Man City game had the best atmosphere I can remember at any Barnsley match by a long chalk. Absolutely fantastic. The entire weekend was amazing when we got promoted to the premier and although obviously oakwell was rocking, it was no where near the city match.
Me too. Amazing day, but it wasn't all songs and jubilation until Clint scored. For obvious reasons - the stakes were so high. Some cup games, like Man City and Chelsea that have already been mentioned and Man Utd and Tottenham, the Walsall game in the play-offs, and many of the Premier League games, were louder and more exuberant for longer.
First two rounds were over two legs. We best Peterborough away 3-2 then hammered them 6-0 at home in a near perfect performance. Then it was Swansea, a first division club, who we beat 2-0 at home and lost 3-2 away (Winston Campbell forgot he was a footballer and reverted to his previous sport of boxing, laying out a Swansea player with a fantastic right hook). That went to extra time. Then Brighton at home, another first division club, who we beat 4-1 - Aylott's goal that for some reason has taken on mythical status, apparently he scored it from The Ponty end car park, personally I preferred Macca's bullet header. We were as good as we have ever been. Then this City game, 33,000 in Oakwell. Then the legendary trip to Liverpool in the fog and the snow. The semi-final draw had already taken place before the replay, we would have played Ipswich, and all looked good when Colin Walker put us 1-0 up, but Liverpool and particularly Graeme Souness were class that night and we lost 3-1.
If I remember right their defender ducked when Macca headed that goal because he had headed it that hard, and the Liverpool game it was half time by the time we got there.Happy days
The memories! I was stood in the Paddock straight over from the tunnel.... what a crush, what a game, what a night and what a team ️
