But if the top flight is made up of foreigners then the next level becomes the defacto top level. The reason we have a weird hybrid that doesn't work is that players are greedy and prefer huge wages sat in the stands than lower wages playing.

Fortunately we still have enough English players making it to elite level but how long this will continue i don't know. I'd like to think that we will continue to produce players like John Stones who will always rise to the very top.

The issue for me is will we continue to have enough English players playing week in week out to build an England squad. It seems Southgate has the same issue.

As good and as competitive that the championship is the national team will suffer if we are having to pick players who are regularly playing in the second tier of their league structure. They will not get the experience of playing against the best players in the world every week while playing in the second tier and this will have an impact on us at tournament football.

That is sadly true in their eyes. Ronaldo once scored a free kick that 'defied the laws of gravity' and was named one of the goals of the decade. Josh Brownhill did exactly the same against Wigan, all he got was a patronising 'oo splendid goal there' from Rob Wotton on SSN.
Also, Bri Howards v overhead v Cardiff. I think that video got lost in the SSN archives 24 hours later. Rooney did one from about 5 yards out v Man City, the country fell to its knees.

On that note. Trevor Sinclair QPR v Tarn. Every Tarn fan in ground gave standing applause. Hate QPR.

Agree with the wages but you're never going to get a national team of world beaters playing championship football season in, season out. You can't say that the likes of Stones and Walker etc. playing Champions League every season against the likes of Messi and Ronaldo isn't good for England- of course it is. It exposes them to different styles of football that they aren't going to get playing a lower calibre of opposition every season in tier 2.

We don't have enough quality, international-level English players to populate the entire 2nd tier so this is why your standpoint is flawed. What I'm proposing is a system whereby the top tier has a more level playing field for English players.

I still feel that footballers can be shortsighted and greedy. As a bloke in my late 30s I can see the long term developmental risks of signing for someone such as Man City as a teenager, but if I'd been approached at 16 and had an agent in my ear telling me I'm going to be a superstar i'm not so sure I'd have turned my back on that and taken the lesser attractive option down the road at say Burnley where the chance of game time may have been a lot higher. Foden for example needs to be careful.

I’m sure govt intervention being as it’s a monopoly could be justified , Nakingvthem adhere to certain rules etc.
I would expect a Tory govt to intervene unilaterally but a cross party moritorium would be justified surely

For me I would like to see a maximum of five overseas players in any matchday squads, thus insuring our best talent were given more of an opportunity to develop at the top end of the game .

Ok. So to be able to compete with the best in the world, you have to be playing AGAINST the best in the world - in the Greed League?

So how does that square with sticking B teams in the EFL? Your best English players are STILL gonna be scoring their 30 yarders at Rotherham.

The only way to get England competitive at international level is to have English players playing regularly in the Greed League.

All they would have to do is register company abroad to get round that though.

Perhaps something along lines of if player doesn’t play a certain quota they have to be sold(injuries aside)?
That way players can still get their opportunity but it might make teams think twice about stock piling.

There's absolutely no requirement for B teams or feeder clubs. All that would do is put young players at the same level as they are now when they loan players out by the lorry load.
It's simply a deflection from the fact that young english players aren't getting enough game time at the top level because the Man Us and Chelseas couldn't give a flying f**k about the national team.

Here’s an idea, why doesn’t Manchester City own every player in the country, and own every club. Thereby Manchester C1 could play C2, etc... it would be very interesting! We may even be allowed to host one of these games!

It’s a ridiculous idea to start this rubbish. Why don’t they just limit squad sizes, and retained players. Then all the clubs could have a go at the piece of sky pie.... oh wait a minute, that’s the reason...

Football is a business weather you realise/like it makes no difference. Have a dose of reality and not ideology, just look at our club... Why do you think we go with yoof, when young players are simply not as good as experience..
Its not because we want to give young players a helping hand... Its because they are far cheaper to employ and have a chance to sell on, pre- prime for maximum profit... The hardest thing is to con the fans that it's all in their best interest, when if ever we get a decent player the club will sell to perpetuate the business.

The club isn't "conning" the fans. The fans want a club to support at the highest level that's reasonable. Until recently doing that necessitated selling players. For as long as the club has been in existence that has been the reality.
Or are you saying that every single board of the club since it was formed have been conning the fans?

I know the reality Spider. But it’s about the EFL not pandering to the premier league elite. I for one would hate to see elite B teams introduced into the league. A lot of teams struggled with finances up to the eighties. Then came along sky. and turned football into a business. The rich get richer and the poor get poorer. But the amount of debt some clubs get into to get to the promised land is staggering.

As someone mentioned, abolish loans. That way the ball is in the young players court, do they want the money instantly and never have the chance of first team football or start in league 1/champ and get the playing time. If they back themselves they’ll work their way to the top and the big clubs will be all over young English talent in the same way they have been over Stones/Sessegnon/Pickford etc who have all played in lower leagues.

It’s a load of **** though, we have always developed enough talent to have a good national side, the problem has always been piss poor managers. 10/15 years ago 4 of the best 5 or 6 sides in Europe were English, all of whom had strong English spines, maybe arsenal being the exception. Yet we achieved **** all because we employed some dumpling who’d won the UEFA Cup a few years before.

Hey guys, welcome to my world of watching **** football. And its now coming to a place near you.
Yeah lots of you have a good laugh at the state of Scottish football but we were in your position 20 years ago and now look at what greed in football has done.
It isn't easy to keep parting with good money to watch a poor product on the field. Unless BFC can get promoted and maintain a high enough position in the Championship life will be a struggle and playing standards will drop. Leagues 1&2 will just be full of cannon fodder and making up the numbers.
