Hourihane would have gone no matter the contract situation just for more money, which would make no difference to us as the money brought in is never seen again. Winnall may well have gone too even if under contract. We would have had the option of keeping both until the end of the season however.
I don't think that would have happened though we would still have just sold up. Whoever was making the decisions at the time had only making the maximum amount of money on the mind.
This i think is summed up by the fact we didn't tie Watkins or Scowen down to new deals which I think would have been possible if we were willing to 're invest some of the money we brought in on wages. We also didn't need to sell Roberts, but we pushed on cashing in and refusing to pay wages we could surely now afford with all the money we had made. This policy directly led to relegation, now we wait and see if our policy has changed. I suspect it won't have but only time will tell.

I think all 3 would of still left no matter how long their contracts were we may of been able to demand bigger fees but winnall forced a move and Conor went to see Patrick while he was reviving treatment and told him he wanted the villa move. Hard to keep players when they don't want to be here. Bree now earns 19k a week at villa and has a 4 year deal was it? He is nearly made already at a young age.

I think its pretty much consensus that the tipping point was not offering better contracts sooner (though many of those calling for contracts 12-18 months sooner were saying the players just weren't good enough, hearts of peas etc). The difference that would have made though is a bigger transfer fee when they left, even back to the days of Hill, I think many players were sold BFC on the back of career progression, so unsurprisingly, as soon as a club came in to up wages, they went. The recruitment over the next year was poor. So I've no qualms over what the ex coach has said. And I do think despite getting in such players that proved to be quality, our handling of them once in the club wasn't great.

However, what I do have issue with are the way he continues to act in relation to his hometown club that he allegedly loves. Maybe his skin is so thick and his vision so blinkered and his heart so self serving that he just can't see. Maybe he's just so bitter its polluted everything he sees about the club. If he carries on, it will be clear he just should never have taken the coaches job and just worked with the young uns.

Key points. He said it was like a divorce, he'd known a year in advance he was going. He was desperate to leave. He had no say in a transfer. He said things as a front to press he didn't believe in.

However.... as mentioned, he signed a brand new contract, which he absolutely didn't have to. He went to Leeds, on the basis that he had absolutely no say in signing players (not that he lasted that long to see it happen) and he revelled in that opportunity from day 1. And for a year, he stayed at the club, hating it, seeding his scorn and negativity to fans and players.

Of course there is merit in several aspects of what he's said, but to use things that went on behind the scenes for self promotion as an unemployed coach who Bradford and Scunthorpe both passed over... he's doing himself no favours at all. I certainly wouldn't want to employ someone who failed so badly at Leeds from the first day, then trashed his home town club he supports, has such a sour bland persona and just moans in interviews. His nature got increasingly bitter and whinging and actually made Mark Robins look a natural extrovert.

Give it up Paul, a time for your own personal introspection... not repeated blame of all and sundry. The answers are within.

The bloke must be desperate to get back in management to do articles like this and open up a can of worms with bfc fans. Its like when he appeared on sky when Leeds played stoke and all he was mentioning was how badly done by he was at Leeds and how they didn't give him chance. Bielsa picked 9 players who were avalible to hecky and won 3 nil the same 11 won the 1st 4 games. He turned Leeds from play off hopefuls to relegation form I'm not surprised teams won't touch him and he has to do this.

One thing that doesn’t quite stack up though is he is suggesting that he left because of the structure of the club.

However the structure of the club had changed about a month before he left...

Of course Leeds are a better prospect , have you seen the Championship league table ? , have you seen the crowds they get ? Do you not know their history ? . Leeds have the potential to once again be one of the biggest clubs in the land . Get real & ditch your agenda with GG , its like a record with the needle stuck .

Respect you as a poster fitzy even we often disagree. This is poor. You've had to stoop to this level because deep down you know I'm right.

Hourihane - absolutely and categorically agree. Winnall - to be honest I had big doubts about him. I expected him to look in the Championship exactly like Bradshaw actually did. I was very glad to be proved wrong. I was also pretty sure that Scowen and Roberts would be able to hack it, and probably Watkins too.

Do you think things are better now.. this club is run for the owners not the fans.
The trick is tho to kid the fans it's still for them.. That's why you have a media TEAM.. instead of just one person relating the facts. You need people to keep constantly moving the cups with the pea underneath.. or the illusion quickly falls..

He's just told the truth that's all... Something we're not used to coming out of, not just Oakwell, but life in general... The norm now is, if the truth doesn't suit, change it for one that does..

I thought he’d said he was doing everything at one point ,identifying/signing players and wanted someone in ASAP . Seems that parts of jigsaw is missing imo .
