Love the enthusiasm and desire but unless these flaws are addressed you can forget promotion 1. Zonal marking 2.need some good experienced Defensive midfielders with a bit of dig 3.At the beginning of the season the Back four worked as a good Defensive unit, with some success As time has moved on the full backs Are playing further up the park, The defensive midfield seem unable To cope with this as a result the CBs are exposed and at times covering the full width of the pitch NOT GOOD 4. Competition for the goalkeeping Jersey I do believe there is quality in the squad but in order to have a good team you require the correct components and most importantly a good manager
I thought your posts were meant to be exclusively positive? I hope you not blaming the manager for the player's shortcomings?
Ye I am positive I want us to go up but these are glaring problems, I do not cast blame but I do believe a manager is responsible for his team, I know from your posts you do not rate any of the players so we disagree on that. I am sure the manager will settle into English football and what is required in the different leagues
I’m hoping (and expecting) that Stendel and Winkler are learning quickly about League 1. The preferred style will be great and blow away certain teams, but for other teams we’ll have to adapt and play in a more considered and methodical way. I also think we’ll be busy on January rectruitment to improve the squad. Just like a few 4-0 wins didn’t mean we would win every game I don’t think a couple of losses mean we’ll drop like a stone. Been a decent start overall.
Out of interest, are you suggesting we ditch the zonal marking or get better at it? I don't think Stendel would ever adopt man marking. He seems to be fundamentally opposed to it. When he explained his reasons for this they seemed to be sound at least to someone who knows jack **** about football (and watching that presentation hammered that home even more )
5. Don’t sell the tireless centre forward who’s infectious energy, enthusiasm and doggedness in closing down makes you look both a threat and a great defensive unit from the front, as if you do the team will all of a sudden become more ponderous, and defensively shaky as more pressure will be invited without a properly effective high press, key to the tactics. 6. If you ignore 5 sign a replacement that will be fit before Christmas... 7. See 5. I jest - but to pick up on some things I don’t fully agree with, the full backs have played high all season, Williams just isn’t as good as pinillos; we aren’t going to play more than one defensive midfielder so given we have Dougall we need only a bit of cover, not ‘some experienced defensive midfielders’ (as if we’d ever sign experience anyway), and as for the goalkeeper, given that walton finished last season and looked the part in the main, I think we all thought we had competition for Davies.
If you look at the stats it would suggest zonal marking is costing us goals , it maybe that our players and staff are not implementing it properly, but in my opinion it’s not a good defensive style, although we played at s higher level last year in the championship I attended most games and don’t recall us losing so many goals from set plays when we were man marking
I think we can agree to have a slight difference of opinion , I see a back four that is not playing as a four of late ,whether that be fitness , ability or lack of defensive awareness or maybe how the team has been set up . Regarding the goalkeeper we have been crying out for quality competition in that area
