https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/45972183 Really shows what a cracking job MM did there over several seasons. Hurst has barely lasted 5 months.
Also saw they have got shut of Nathan Winder, after Leeds also got rid quickly. It wasn't long ago he left us and he's been let go from two other clubs already.
Was always going to be "be careful what you wish for" as far as ITFC fans pushing for MM's release is concerned. Chickens roosting.
Agreed, in his 5.5 seasons there MM never finished below 16th but that wasn't good enough for their fans. Will be interesting to see if a new manager can change their fortunes and move them up the table. Had a look on one of their forums and someone was asking for the return of George Burley!!
If they had given MM the amount of money they gave Hurst then i reckon he'd have got them into the playoffs easily.
Its what happens when you sell all your best players and replace them with league one and two players who arent up to the job. Sounds very familiar........
It is interesting reading the comments on Paul Hurst , as he was one manager who a lot of our fans wanted to come here . I wonder if opinions of him have now changed after his Ipswich failure . The one thing it does show, is how quickly things change in football , 5 months ago his stock was high & he was in demand ,but now after a short stint in the championship he joins the list of out of work managers . I do think that he will get other opportunities ,but probably they will come in the lower tiers .
I was one of those pushing for us to appoint Paul Hurst in the summer! As you point out it is interesting how quickly circumstances change in the footbal world. I can't see him getting another opportunity in the championship just yet. He will find himself in a similar situation to Hecky and both will probably have to drop down to league 1 or 2.
Exactly what I thought when I read this " The club's four highest scorers last season - Martyn Waghorn, Joe Garner, Bersant Celina and David McGoldrick - all left Ipswich as part of wholesale changes to the squad. They were replaced largely by players who spent last season in Leagues One and Two, who were unable to adapt to the higher level fast enough to save Hurst's job." Im sure Ive heard that somewhere before Maybe they ought to look to a manager with experience taking over such a squad - Morais for example
I'd have been happy with him here this season based on his career up to Shrewsbury - interesting to see if it was just a bad fit/Ipswich are on a downward trajectory whatever or if he's just not up to that level.
Its a tough one. I thought he was a decent manager and did a great job at Shrewsbury. Whoever took that job having lost so many players would have a tough ask, especially with the fans expecting success from moving on from the dour football they thought McCarthy churned out. It takes time to bed in, given time, I reckon he may have done ok. I strongly fancy Ipswich for the drop. They've been a poor side in decline for a few years relying on McGoldrick, Waghorn and set pieces. Take them away, there isn't much of a Championship side left.
They seem to be where we were the season we went down under Flitcroft/Wilson - we came back but relied on lower league players at a higher level - hopefully if/when we get back again we've learnt that you need a mix.
Those who hounded Mick out are now claiming that they are OK being bottom of the table because they are playing better football. I hope they finish bottom.
I had him top of my list and still think that he will be a good catch for a League 1/2 club. The advice usually is to take the rest of the season off and scout the players you may want to recruit in your next job, but it is very early in the season for Hurst to be doing that. If he goes into a League 1/2 club, watch them progress. Great manager at that level. Lambert, or Bruce for Ipswich???? Both have Norwich connections, so won't go down well.
I've given the whole Mccarthy treatment a lot of thought and done my thorough research, and can only come to the educated conclusion that they're a reight load of rural bummers.
The issue should’ve been with Evans & not McCarthy, you can’t cut the budget each year & expect good football & performances not to suffer. If you’re going to give a young manager a chance to bring in his own players then surely you have to give him time. Lambert’s not exactly known for stylish football, he’ll have them playing similar football to McCarthy in an attempt to stay up so it’s back to square one but with a big compensation pay out. Maybe just maybe they could’ve used that money to give McCarthy a decent budget for a change? Just stinks of a chairman that spent a fortune originally in giving funds to Keane but has now fallen out of love with it a bit like Randy Lerner at Villa when he realised he wasn’t going to get them into the champions league
