Been having a bunch of issues with my laptop of late, with vertical blocks appearing on the screen, numerous blue screen issues etc Periodically I'm able to make it work by effectively wiping all trace of the drivers and starting again but then after anything from an hour or so to a few days, it reverts back to the existing issue Can post specs etc but is anyone on here a whizz with this sort of stuff? I think it's a driver issue but I'm not certain Have attached a link to show what it looks like
Do you happen to have access to an external monitor? That way you would be able to determine if it's potentially a hardware issue with the monitor itself. If that works, you may also be able to then download the latest drivers from whatever manufacturer your laptop has come from. Getting the latest drivers might help if it's a software issue as well. This might be the case as well since it seems to work for a while when you wipe it. It could be that windows updates are downloading newer drivers, but that they're not quite right for your machine. So then either you can see if you can find better ones from the manufacturer and/or tell windows update to keep its hands off of your video drivers.
Good shout on a monitor, hadn't thought about that I will have access one way or another. Will give that a whirl and see what happens next
A common issue on laptops is the cable connecting the display to the computer board inside the laptop base, under the keyboard. It gets some hammer if the lid is opened and closed often, and sometimes breaks or becomes intermittent. As @Runner says, try it with an external monitor and see if that works. If it is the cable, you can order a new one online but it's not an easy job to replace it, depending on your level of technical skills. You may need to take it to a repair place. In that case you may need to consider whether a repair is worth it, especially if it is getting old and is starting to slow down. Like I do on my skis.
Looks like either faulty display ribbon or a hardware video card / chip problem. Your video shows the problem in the bios startup. It hasn’t even got to the operating system, so won’t be a driver issue.
And make sure it's a repair place that you trust. A friend of mine (not the brightest when it comes to these matters, to be fair - the kind of guy a dodgy operator would see coming a mile off) ended up paying over a hundred quid for a 'fix' which, when I opened it up, turned out to be a bit of sticky tape!
