There is nothing wrong in saying that our current squad would need an additional 4 to 5 championship standard players to be able to compete if we go up. Pinnock, Lyndsay Dougall, Mowatt, Potts. Moore could easily step up, Moncur Woodrow Bahre, Thiam, Cavare, Davies are still young enough to improve to play a part if we went up. Any team promoted from this league would need significant investment to avoid struggling, it exactly why it was so tough last year.
You have not really answered the question , do you think if we went up , would we go into the championship with this squad ?. I personally think we would have players depart & that we would look to strengthen , would you agree or disagree with me ?
The three teams that went up last year have spent on transfer fees; Rotherham 18th (embarrassing the year before) -£0 Blackburn 8th - £1.7m (on ex red, no where near good enough for the championship at the time Adam Armstrong) Wigan 16th - big spenders £4.7m - but offset by selling their best player for £3.3m. Net spend a whopping £1.4m I wonder how many of their fans spent their promotion campaign worrying about their ability to do well in the championship. Or just enjoyed it for what it was. A promotion campaign. When/If we get to the championship do we have to slate the players for not being good enough to do well in the premiership if they are only very good championship players. I’m really confused. We’re 4th. With restrictions on turnover to wages. But we should be carrying a squad of mid table championship players or we aren’t good enough. It’s almost like we need to find things to have a right good moan about. Proper Beige to me.
I thought bringing in Dougall was a good call. I think Woodrow will come good and we've been a bit unlucky there. Jury out on Bahre. Was right time for Bradshaw to go.
I thought last january went well , Moore & McBurnie were excellent signings & any half decent manager would have kept us up .
Just highlights what a good job Warne is doing they even have micheal Smith up front conan will remember him. All about getting the best out of the players you have.
Ability wise we’d need to strengthen if we got up but footballs not all about talent. 3 of the biggest factors in football are chemistry, experience & team spirit, if we went up & kept most of the squad with a few additions we’d have them. We didn’t last season. We were almost doomed from the outset with having to replace a full team in one window. I still find it hard to believe we were out of the drop zone in January with the squad we had before McBurnie & Moore arrived. I can’t see any reason that these players wouldn’t do better second time round in the championship. I’d be amazed that if they had a season at that level followed by a promotion & were all over a year closer to their peaks if they didn’t improve
And all those people who you romantically Like to still believe are alive are dead! So I'll wipe my snot on the arm of your chair As you put another Roger Dean poster on the wall
I agree I think five or six players have great potential with age on their side. We do although have a 23 year old who has made over 100 appearances for a mid table Leeds side in the championship not too long back also was their player of the season one year.
Having an aversion to the white ***** I never saw Mowatt play for Leeds at that level unless he played against us and I can’t say I noticed him if he did. I did see him play for us And he was very average and I’m being kind with that description. His lack of pace seem to really hinder him. Now players like Stephen McPhail managed the championship with ease using ability to hide a lack of pace. I’m not writing him off just not convinced he’s McPhail’s level.
You cannot have it both ways , it was a decent transfer window , you cannot dismiss it because it doesn"t suit your point . I agree we have had some tough windows but last january was not one of them .
I have answered it. I said I don't know. I can't possibly know and neither can you. I am just saying it would be a massive mistake to do so.
