With the side we have now I would say playoffs. But if we do some business in January & get 2/3 players in hopefully promotion..
Backed us to win the league, and still expect us to do so. 4 quality signings in January of championship quality.
Four (!) signings of Championship quality? You're setting yourself up for disappointment there. Players of such quality aren't looking for the opportunity to play below their level. If we're lucky we find two quality players to come in on loan. But permanents surely not. We'd have to seal promotion first to get players in who are of such quality already.
What are you drinking? BTW, a very good post. I agree with 90% of your analysis. I'd feared the lack of cover in central midfield. If Aidy White is about, surely give him 2 month contract if he is considered fit enough. He would be great in that position in this league.
Don't really have expectations. I occasionally make predictions and my prediction before the season was that we wouldn't do very well. We're doing much better than I thought. To be honest, I thought we'd see a lot more games like these last 4. How will we fair from this point forward? Honestly don't know. I still don't think automatic promotion is within reach of this squad of players, but the play-offs might be. Or we might end the season mid-table or worse. The quality of the opposition has been lower than I expected and we're capable of blowing such sides away. We're also capable of being well beaten by them. As far as individual games are concerned, I'll say it like I see it. I think we've played phenomenally well in a few matches this season. I also think we've looked bang average in others and no better than teams that will be relegated.
Anything other than automatic promotion will be a failure. Most weeks our bench has players that cost more than the entire opposition team.
Is this true? Doesn't sound right to me without giving it any deep thought. The second sentence I mean, the first is obviously a valid opinion.
Heartless. When we lose it upsets me and usually spoils Satdi evening and all day Sunday. I’m usually over it by midweek. Unless we have lost against Leeds or Sheffield - then it might take a week.
My expectations are these: We start to bring in young talented players from the continent and South America and develop these players. We get into the Championship this season or the next. We get into the Premier League in the next 5 years. We become a mid table Premier League side and become a force in English football eg similar to Watford. We develop Oakwell into a stadium holding 30,000. We encourage more people throughout Yorkshire to relate to Barnsley by tweaking the name and logo to attract more people to support the club e.g. Barnsley Football Club - Yorkshire Tykes
I hope we win promotion, rather than expect. Actually, I hope we win the title, as I've never seen us do that before. Being the immature muppet that I am, I still fall into a huge sulk when we lose. Thankfully, this season it's been a rare event. For me this group of players have proved they can play a high standard of football few others can match, but they're also capable of grinding out results, too.
I expect us to get promoted this season as I think we are potentially the best team in the league. I also expect the owners to fund a sensible push in January to give us the best opportunity to get promoted this season. This season was too early to rely heavily on Walton, Brown, Adebejo, Williams, hedges and Mcgheehan to a certain extent in a new position also the lack of wide players as an option for Stendell. This is where I expect us to strengthen in Jan.
Will depend where we stand with FFP. It is why I could see us losing a Centre Back & no.10 in January to make room. Jackson & McGeehan? At the end of the day we don't know what the wages are.
We've a fair few contracts due up. So I think we'll see a few shipped out who may be a bit more fringe and aren't in plans, and those who refuse to extend.
Barnsley theoretically is the fourth richest club in UK, that within the bounds of prudent management should equate to the fans aspirations ie. promotion this season via whatever means at best or promotion next season at worst.
Personally, I think Jackson is the best defender at the club and probably would make the best captain.
You may be right, but as 3rd choice here he may fancy his chances elsewhere. We will probably nick someone from Accrington.
