The isgrove of the 15/16 season would be the perfect player for this high pressing system were trying to play. I still hope he can regain some sort of fitness and form and get back to playing how we know he can do!........... Yep another isgrove fan here
If you are taking the word of the commentators on ifollow, who are such forgiving Barnsley biased broadcasters that they could have been taught their craft in Pyongyang, then good luck to you. B Williams wasn't too bad. Passing backwards. Bird showed why he is 3rd in the queue behind Dougal and McGeehan. Jordan Williams will not get a first team game without major injuries if that's his usual standard. Woodrow did not stand out - he did nothing especially bad and had nobody around to help him much. One good effort. Davies - their bloke had a free header from a yard or two out. He wasn't helped by anyone and he was blocked a bit. But I want my goalie to be in charge of that area at corners. Just like the Southend goalie should have been on Saturday.
Cheers. Like I said, I wasn’t there so commentary was my only choice. I’m sure your opinion is more valid that the 2 I listened to.... Like you originally said. Only 3 players looked competent. Shame that Woodrow et al didn’t look to have the ability to play football to a satisfactory and acceptable level, though not outstanding. Doesn’t bode well does it. They didn’t even have an average game.... they weren’t even competent? Wow. That’s not great for their futures in the game. Thank you for your analysis. It helps those who weren’t at the game.
Tonight player update Played well Davies Fryers Jackson Moncur Brown Played OK Woodrow, B Williams, Hedges, Thiam, Bird Played meh Adebejo, Bahre, Isgrove, J Williams,
Surely you have if he didn’t look competent? He wasn’t even average to you. He wasnt even competent at playing football. That’s really really poor. He must have been woeful for you to say he wasn’t even looking competent.
It's his first 45 minutes in ages, so let's not write him off yet. Two more consecutive cup games to get even more minutes, which will help his sharpness.
Well if you look back I haven't used the word "competent" at all. Though you have 3 times in a response to me. I said that 3 of our players looked semi-capable tonight, by which I meant (if you'd asked) semi-capable of putting in a performance for our first team. We played Everton under 21s tonight. And 3 of our players tonight, by their performances, looked like they might deserve a shot at a place in our first team. Is that OK? Furthermore, I shall quote what I posted specifically about Woodrow earlier on: "Woodrow did not stand out - he did nothing especially bad and had nobody around to help him much. One good effort." If you are trying to build that into a footballing character assassination, good luck.
That’s fine! No need to get all upset by it pickle. Hyper sensitive! I asked questions as I wasn’t at the game and only had the commentators opinion to go on. And yours. Capable and competent to me are fairly similar. In conversation I wasn’t particularly interested in the wording, more the meaning behind your statement that only 3 players looked “semi-capable”. And you didn’t include Woodrow in that. So he must, by your own judgement, have been less than semi-capable. And you’ve now clarified that it was whether you felt they were semi-capable of putting in a performance for our first team. Bit worrying. But you’re very sensitive old bean. Just relax and enjoy watching our semi capable footballers. What was the atmosphere like? Didn’t sound great on airwaves.
You are quite at liberty to go back and read my post again, and perhaps see it in the manner that it was intended. Quite inoffensive. And dealing with the relevant matter. I hope you will find that there was nothing therein to cause offence, nor have you need to induce me towards relaxation. All is well.
Obviously calling our young players less than semi-capable is a real boost. My mistake me old china. I’m glad to have those in attendance opinion on the players performance. I couldn’t go due to work, but probably would have stayed in with the wife and kids tonight anyway. What was the overall match atmosphere like? Quiet I imagine? Sounded it. Did that impact the tempo did you feel? Heard a few lone voices shouting encouragement to the young uns but hard to generate a sing song with a sparce croud. Did you have a good evening at the match though? That’s the main reason for going to football.
No mention of Davies for his performance in the penalty shoot out , two penalty saves surely deserves a mention , well done Adam
I think you'll find that it's my decision - I set the Gang up. Yes Super Tyke, you can join...but you are in the nets.
